Over the years I have moved house more times than I can count. This was something that started when I was a child. We seemed to be moving house every other week. Part of the reason for this was my mother used to rent and we seemed to change homes every few months. I always said that this would never happen when I grew up, even as a child, I knew all too well the stress of moving house. Never seeming to have my own bedroom for longer than six months always made me feel unsettled.
Unfortunately the cycle of renting followed me into my adulthood and when I left home I was immediately part of the renters army moving from house to house and never getting the chance to put roots down.
I have always found moving home one of the most stressful parts of life, but as I said earlier having moved a lot in my life I have learnt coping mechanisms and getting myself organised definitely helps. So here are some of my top tips for moving home and making it as stress free as humanly possible.
1. Getting Packed Up
I have found the best way to pack up all your belongings is to do one room at a time and finish that room before you move on to the next one. It’s also a good idea to always put as much detail as possible on each box, so when it comes to unpacking you know exactly where it needs to go in your new home.
2. Removal Services
It’s very important to get a removal company that has been recommended to you or has very good online reviews. You may also want to get a number of quotes because the cost of moving house can be expensive. However, that doesn’t mean you use the cheapest, because that in itself can be a mistake. Use a company that has a good reputation, but also offers a competitive quote.
3. Being Organised
Always organise everything as you go. Make lists and as you complete each one cross it off, and it will take the stress out of moving. Also start packing in plenty of time so that it is not a big mad rush and you are still packing as the removal men turn up.
Organisation really is the key to a successful house move in my opinion.
