5 Handy Clothing Items for Your Newborn

June 15, 2022

Baby clothes are one of the most frustrating aspects of being a new parent. At your baby shower, you’ll receive countless pieces of clothing for your new bundle of joy, but there will probably be too much of one size, not enough of what you need or an overflow of items your baby ends up hating.

Not to mention the fact that your little one will grow out of those clothes quicker than you can get them out of the wardrobe! If you’re a new parent, you might not be sure what you need and what you don’t – here’s a list of 5 really useful items you’ll want to stock up on.

Cotton Basics

First of all, making sure that you have enough (or more than enough) of the basics is going to be a good move. Cotton is a breathable and comfortable fabric for your baby and is usually affordable too. Remember that babies grow quickly so you don’t want to be spending too much money on items that they’ll only wear for a few weeks.

Basic bodysuits (both long and short sleeves), zip-up onesies and some pants and shirts are essentials. Make sure you buy some pants with feet and some without.

Warmer Knitwear

You’ll also need to get some thicker, warmer items to layer over your basic, cotton pieces. Knitwear is a great option, as well as fleece because they’re both warm and comfortable. Especially if you give birth in the colder months, knitted clothes for babies are super helpful for insulating your little one to keep them toasty and warm.

Some thick, cosy onesies, jackets and jerseys will be a great addition to your baby’s wardrobe – plus they’ll look oh-so-cute on their winter wear.

Sleep Sacks

If you don’t trust your own swaddling technique, you’re not alone. However, we all know that we can’t let our newborns sleep unprotected. Enter: the sleep sack. This item is like a wearable blanket that keeps your little ones wrapped up tight and comfy helping them sleep well and regulate their body temperature.

As warm and cosy as they may look, there are actually amazing sleep sacks for every season, including the warmer summer months.

Hats and Socks

Speaking of body temperature regulation, another great item to help with this is a cute little beanie. Make sure you opt for simple, soft and stretchy ones, as your baby might not enjoy the feeling of thicker or more elaborate fabrics.

You’ll also want to make sure you have plenty of socks – as you just know that they’ll be falling off and going missing.

Breastfeeding Tops

If your wife is breastfeeding, you might feel like you’re less involved in baby care as a father. However, there are still plenty of ways you can take care of your little one, and take care of your wife too. Purchasing her a few shirts designed for breastfeeding can help make the experience easier and more comfortable for her.

While this isn’t a clothing item for the baby, it’s a clothing item that will make both Mommy and baby much happier.
