[AD] Family Meals We Cooked At Home During Lockdown

September 4, 2020

We have finally started to be released from full lockdown and there is no question that it’s a very strange time. It’s something that the population of the UK had never experienced before, and was a very testing time. One part of lockdown that forever seemed to be a challenge for us is mealtimes. The reason is that all of a sudden we were all at home 24/7 and mealtimes became a very important part of our routine.

Organising our meals was something that became a priority so that we were cooking a meal that not only my wife and I would enjoy, but also our eight year old twin girls.

While I was on the internet looking for recipes and ideas, I came across Simply Cook and their food box subscription service.

What makes Simply Cook so much better than a complete food box is that the choice of meals is fantastic and every time your subscription box is delivered you get four delicious meals to choose from. All you have to do is add 4-6 fresh items from your fridge. If they are not in your fridge they will be easy to find in your local supermarket. They are brilliant value for money. It has a longer shelf life so you are not panicked into having to cook. You can also cancel with ease, not that you will want too once you have experienced the Simply Cook subscription food box.

How it works

It’s really simple. Download the Simply Cook app, choose your recipes and then wait for delivery. When they arrive with your recipe kit you will also have a step by step recipe card. Add your 4-6 ingredients from your fridge and in about 20 minutes you will have a delicious meal to eat.

Simply cook make cooking meals as simple as possible and their team of chefs create, test and refine incredible recipes from around the world which they then get all the taste packed into their tiny flavour pots.

During lockdown it certainly made our mealtimes easier and more organised and once we found recipes that all of us liked we could re-order the same meals. I particularly liked the fact that I was in charge of what meals were in our Simply Cook Food Box.

One of my particular favourites during lock down was Chilli Con Carne. It has made me re-think exactly what Chilli Con Carne should taste like and this did not disappoint. It’s ready to eat in just 25 minutes. Also on the recipe card there is a strip you tear off which tells you exactly what you need from your fridge or supermarket. The Simply Cook Food Box Subscription service was a godsend during lockdown and it has now become a regular delivery to our home. It has really simple to follow recipe cards and is fantastic value for money with over 100 recipes to choose from around the world. I know we will never run out of ideas for a midweek meal that is full of flavour and very tasty.

And Don’t Forget A Tipple

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t include a bevvy or two to round off a lovingly made seasonal meal. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been finding myself looking at more alcohol-free options in the supermarkets these days. You’d be surprised at just how good they can taste, especially when you want to have just one beer with your dinner.

Some of my favourites just now would include the alcohol-free Tennent’s beers, Lucky Saint & St Peter’s Without Gold.  If there is a specific alcohol-free beer you think is worth trying out, let me know in the comments.

If you are looking to organise your meals and add a variety of tastes that appeal to all the family, then I can’t recommend Simply Cook food boxes highly enough. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Have you tried Simply Cook? I would love to hear your experiences in the comments below.

We don’t have that here in Australia but we do have Hello Fresh which we get every week. I really love their meals not being someone who likes to cook and who has no imagination for cooking. Good to hear you guys are starting to get back out. All my family is still over there are they have found it really difficult.

Ive not tried this service yet, but I can appreciate the idea, encouraging people to experiment with flavours without having to spend a fortune on pots of herbs and spices that end up sitting in the back of the cuoboard because you’re never really sure what to do with them.

As we begin to resume our running here and there, I find myself missing the regularity of every meal at home during lockdown.
