[AD] How AI Is Helping During The Covid-19 Pandemic

We are well and truly in the middle of lockdown and life doesn’t remotely resemble anything that was considered normal before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, behind the scenes as governments try to come to grips with Covid-19 and try to protect the populations of their countries, scientists are collating data and working hard to find the best way to eventually defeat this dreadful disease that is killing people on a massive scale.

One of the biggest challenges during the earliest stages of the pandemic was to make sure health services were prepared for an overload of patients. In addition, they also needed to prepare hospitals to have isolation units for covid-19 patients mainly because with this particular virus being so highly contagious it’s important to reduce transmission rates and make sure our frontline health professionals are protected which is why you need isolation wards. 

Ventilators

There is no doubt that health authorities were going to be particularly short of ventilators because of the simple fact that no hospital has ever had to deal with so many people requiring help with their breathing at one time, so stockpiling ventilators has never been on their agenda. AI and machine vision is perfect to mass produce ventilators, but also making sure they are  to the highest standards. 

Vaccines

The only real way out of full lockdown is to discover a vaccine and this will have to be done at double quick time because countries around the world could not afford to have a second outbreak of Covid-19 because it could be more devastating than the first.

This is where AI will come into its own, because the amount of testing of people that is required. This simply couldn’t be done by just a human workforce. They wouldn’t be able to keep up with demand. 

Artificial Intelligence or robots have to be embraced by the workforce, especially machine vision which enables the product produced whether it be a drug, vaccine or ventilator, to be produced quicker and with machine vision it will be manufactured to the highest standards.

With the only possible way out of lockdown being a vaccine, scientists are going to rely on AI and machine vision to get results very quickly, and this will confirm if the vaccine is going to work as AI will be able to check massive batches of results in a fraction of the time that a human workforce could do it. Of course once we have the pandemic behind us, AI and machine vision will play a major role in restoring our economy, which of course is at the moment taking a battering, but once a vaccine is discovered they will be able to manufacture it very quickly.

Also as industry starts up again, in particular the car parts industry, it will most likely be having to produce car parts much quicker than normal to keep up with demand and to the very highest standards. We live in a very technological world where AI plays an important role, but it’s something the human workforce should embrace, because both AI and humans can work alongside each other to get the best results whatever the industry.
