AD Retro Gaming With Arcade 1UP Galaga Review

October 1, 2019

I will openly admit that I’ve wasted more hours than I think I should have playing g arcade games such as PAC-MAN, Space Invaders and Galaga. They were at one time to be found everywhere. In most cafes and pubs you would see arcade game cabinets everywhere.

There was no better feeling in the world than putting in 10pence, yes, I know gaming was cheap in those days, and then staying on the machine for hours on end and probably annoying everybody that was waiting to have a go! The aim was simple. Don’t get killed and you could then stay on the arcade game all day and yes, achieve the highest score that you could put your initials against to make sure all your mates knew you were the best!

So when I was approached recently by Arcade 1UP to review the cabinet arcade game, Galaga in my home it was a total no brainer. It was going to be a massive throwback to my childhood.

Galaga is a simple game of killing the aliens as they come at you. There are only two controls involved: a joystick to move your spaceship and a fire button. Sounds simple right? Well not quite because you have to go through the stages and of course they get harder and your concentration levels have to be on point.

Playing arcade games as a child was the start of my love of gaming and yes, as I was introduced to Xbox, I love all the complex games you can play. There was still this lasting memory of playing Galaga on a Saturday morning in a cafe in town.

Arcade 1UP are introducing to the UK a number of full cabinets with a wide variety of games including as I have said pac-man, Galaga and the iconic Street Fighter. I’m sure people of a certain generation will have memories of at least one of them.

The cabinets are really well made. The screens and controls are exactly as I remember them when I used to pull up a stool and get playing. The colours of the cabinets are exactly as I remember too.

One of the strangest feelings has been watching how quickly my seven year old twin girls have got involved. Explaining to a seven year old that you played these games as a child to your children who would never have seen anything like an arcade game before is actually impossible, but then when they see one in your front room, I’m pretty sure the penny dropped because all of a sudden they were playing and I couldn’t get them off it to have a go myself! The reason being is that I think it’s the simplicity of arcade games. Unlike games on an Xbox where you have to be exact to achieve anything, the arcade game has a simple purpose. To destroy the opposition and stay alive yourself. The games will be as long or as short as you want or as good as you are which is what I think the girls love about the Arcade 1UP retro game cabinet.

The arcade game cabinet is perfect for house parties. You pop it in the corner of the room or in the kitchen. It’s a fab place to chill or have competitions with your guests as most have two player options.

They are currently available online at Amazon, Argos and Game and start at prices of around £150. I think it’s great value for what is a throwback to my childhood and being able to relive some of my wasted moments as a child was purely magical! I would highly recommend the arcade game cabinets as a must for every home. Simple but truly awesome fun.

I was gifted the Arcade 1UP GALAGA cabinet arcade game in return for a review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% mine.

I am not a gamer which is sad because all 3 of my children love them but I find them confusing so this sort of thing appeals more and as you say take me right back to my youth too where I did not play but watched others doing happily #ThatFridayLinky #BinkyLinky Oh and I think the price point is great!

I wish you hadn’t told me how inexpensive these really are. I’m in the process of finishing off my new downstairs and am already way over budget. I’ll bet one or two of these would look really cool down there though! #thatfridaylinky
