Brilliant Dad Feature Week 102 

This week our Brilliant Dad Feature is Luke. He is a 30 something first time dad living in the fine city of Norwich in the UK. He is new to blogging starting his blog just last October. He is the first of his friends to have a baby, and has found blogging a great network for support.

He lived a pretty crazy lifestyle before his little boy, Huxley, was born so he has had to make adjustments to his life in general.

1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?

It has always been in the back of my mind, but not something that i was 100% sure about. I have a large family and have always been surrounded by babies so I’m almost accustomed to them. When I started travelling it was always an afterthought, but now he is here, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

2. How did you feel when your children were born?

It’s so hard to put into words the emotions you feel when your baby is born. Preconceived ideas and thoughts on the birth are never the same as when you are there in person. To be honest it was so overwhelming. I cried a lot. Babies in general are such a natural miracle it’s was a blessing to have my own little boy.

3. What have been the most rewarding experiences been so far as a dad? 

This is a tough questions because I feel everyday is rewarding. A day doesn’t go past when I notice some change in Huxley and it’s beautiful. The first genuine smile is a very special moment and priceless.

4. What are some of funniest moments to have happened to you as a dad?

Being only 9 months old there have been some funny situations not necessarily down to Huxley himself, but the way me and the OH have reacted, with bodily fluids being the main subject! Now Huxley’s personality is coming on leaps and bounds, it’s clear he is going to be a mischievous one. You can see he knows he is being naughty and although frowned upon, I find this highly amusing. Perhaps I need to stop this before he turns into a devil child!

5. Have there been any situations with your children that you found difficult to cope with?

I’m not going to lie, everything at first. Thrust into the unknown everything is so challenging and no amount of reading can prepare you for the change. If I was pushed for an answer it would be sleep deprivation – I could literally sleep for England if asked so being dragged from a deep slumber to change a nappy was/is difficult to say the least.

6. What are your dreams and hopes for your children?

Mainly, to be happy in whatever he chooses to do. I would love for him to see the world, indulge in different cultures and take influence from them. I would love him to take on a creative path in life, but time will tell.
