Getting Back In Shape As A Busy Dad

July 29, 2023

Let’s face it, Dadhood is fraught with responsibilities, tasks, duties, checklists, and even sacrifices. Of course, we’re more than happy to take part in that because it’s a valuable journey to raise a family with your partner, or even alone.

This isn’t to discount the worth of motherhood, no family would be possible without it and they provide an absolutely essential vitality, vibrance, and health to the family unit. This is just to say that as Dads, it’s very easy to focus on only on daily duties and to neglect other areas of life.

For example, it might be that you’ve noticed that you’ve fallen out of shape in these last years. Perhaps you’ve just been busy with work, you haven’t been cooking as much you could, or you’ve been supporting your partner through pregnancy – whatever the reason there’s no need to feel ashamed for being a little larger and a little less lean than you were.

Tomorrow is always a new day. If you want to get back into shape as a busy Dad, you might consider some of our essential advice:

Reinvest In Yourself & Your Wardrobe

Just because you’re a Dad and may be happily married doesn’t mean you have to let yourself go. It can be nice to subvert the usual middle-age gut for reinvesting in yourself, having some nice clothes fitted to your body shape, fixing up your teeth with SmilePath, and dressing for your age with confidence. Investing in the classics such as a reliable pair of boots, a strong coat, and the little flourishes you enjoy wearing shows you’re still sharp and cutting edge, fighting the usual stereotype of the Dad who rests on his laurels.

Set A Simple Goal & Find A Practice You Love

It’s always healthy for a Dad to nerd out about a practice or hobby he loves, even if he only has one in among all of his other responsibilities. This can also apply to fitness. For example, you may really get involved in gardening and landscaping your property, and anyone who tells you this isn’t exercise is simply mistaken. You might get involved in running, join your local rowing club, or even begin barbell weightlifting. For that, you may consider:

Invest In Home Equipment

It can be great to build your home gym as a Dad. This doesn’t have to be a full and replete workout zone with every tool you could ever use to get in shape. However, you can usually find a barbell and some weights, a squat rack, and an exercise bike for an affordable upfront cost. You can pad out parts of your garage or renovate a spare ground room to make sure you have the space for such a consideration. Just make sure it’s well ventilated and lit to improve your safety. Also, sound dampening material and reinforced flooring, or flooring that isn’t easily damaged (like garage concrete) can make a massive difference.

With this advice, you’re sure to get back in shape as a busy Dad going forward.
