Home Improvements That Help Reduce Stress

November 16, 2022

There seems to be no avoiding the stress we are under in our daily lives. If it isn’t the job calling us in on a day we had planned with the kids, it’s new worries of Covid surging again. Perhaps it’s the rising cost of petrol or Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that is threatening to spill over, getting Europe involved. Are you looking for something to do to get your mind off what troubles you?

The best advice has been handed down through the years. Find something interesting to occupy your time, keeping your mind off things you can do nothing about. You know what they say about idle hands! What you might want to try is getting to a few of those home improvements you’ve been wanting to undertake. Here are a few suggestions that just might help to alleviate much of that stress you are suffering.

Build a Playhouse for the Kids

Since your job often takes you away from plans you’ve made with the kids, why not build a playhouse in the back garden? You could check for corrugated roofing sheets like you’d find online at the Clear Amber Shop. As a weekend DIY project, you could have the most fantastic playhouse in the neighbourhood. When built, you could spend time with the kids if there isn’t time to go to the park or on a weekend hike. In fact, your kids might have so much fun out there that they wouldn’t even realise that you were inside crunching numbers for the boss!

Construct a Greenhouse to Garden All Year Round

Anything that you can do outside in nature can be the greatest stress reliever of all. While you can’t garden every month of the year outside, you could always build a small greenhouse once you’ve finished the kids’ playhouse. With a few timbers you could frame the walls with a polycarbonate sheet construction and top it off with plastic roof sheets. Not only will the actual labour involved in a DIY project like that help to settle the nerves but working the soil with your hands is another way to reap the natural benefits Mother Earth has in store for you.

Repaint Your Interior Walls with Calming Colours

Believe it or not, there is a school of thought that colours can affect your moods. Many of the leading psychologists state that colours like blue help you think clearly while green brings balance to your life. If there is anything that stress does, it would be setting you off balance where you can’t think clearly. Does this suggest that you use a combination of blues and greens? Perhaps teal would bring them together nicely.

The actual purpose behind staying busy with something like home improvements that demand your full attention is to keep your mind off those things that are troubling  you. Nothing relieves stress quite as effectively as being able to focus on something that brings you a sense of accomplishment when completed. You may never get enough done to satisfy the boss, but once you see the progress you’ve made at home, you can relax in a job that really is well done, once and for all.
