How Men Can Keep Their Bones Healthy

May 15, 2023

If you want to keep your bones healthy so that you can maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout your life, there are some important things to bear in mind. The more you can do to keep your bones healthy, the more you’ll be able to enjoy all aspects of your life as you get older, as well as right now. You’ll be healthier and fitter, and you’ll have less chance of breaking bones if you fall, for example. With that in mind, read on to find out how men can keep their bones healthy to prevent problems in the future.

Eat A Balanced Diet

If you want to keep your bones healthy, it’s crucial that you eat a nutrient-rich diet as much as possible. The better your diet, the better your health in general, but there are specific things you should eat to ensure good bone health.

Calcium is a big element of bone health, so it’s wise to include this in your diet where you can. Although you might automatically think of things like cheese and milk, calcium can be found in leafy greens and tofu, too, so everyone can get enough of it even without dairy products in their diet. Another great nutrient for bone health is vitamin D, which many of us don’t get enough of. Add more to your diet with supplements if you can’t get it in your food.

Boost Your Testosterone Levels

As men get older, their testosterone levels drop. You might not think this is much of an issue if you don’t want to start a family, for example, but actually, testosterone is about more than fathering children; it has many health benefits, including helping to keep your bones strong. If you start to have less testosterone, your bones might suffer.

To counter this, you can try TRT therapy. This stands for ‘testosterone replacement therapy’, and it can boost your levels of testosterone. It’s best to speak to experts about this to ensure it is the right solution for you, but if it is, it can be highly effective for many reasons, including your bone health.

Avoid Unhealthy Habits

Of course, avoiding unhealthy habits in your life is something that is great for your overall health (including your mental health), but if you are thinking of ways to improve your bone health specifically, this is certainly something you’ll want to bear in mind.

Smoking is a good example of a bad habit that can directly impact your bones. When you smoke, you’ll have lower bone density, and this means you’ll be more likely to break or fracture bones. This is obviously not a good thing at any age, but the older you are, the more dangerous this can be and the longer it can take to heal.

Excessive alcohol consumption will also cause issues with your bones. Not only can your bones become more brittle and thin due to alcohol, but when they reform after a break, they might not mend properly, leaving you with long-term mobility issues.

Ideally, you should give up your unhealthy habits as soon as possible to help protect your bones as well as other aspects of your health.
