How To Keep Going With Your Chosen Sport During Lockdown

January 8, 2021

The last twelve months have, without any shadow of a doubt, curtailed our freedoms. We have been confined to our homes for long periods of time. This has without question impacted how we have been able to continue with our own sports and generally keeping fit and active.

When lockdown happened for the first time back in March 2020 all sports and gyms were not allowed to open. This meant no team sports etc. In addition, golf courses were also closed which meant we would have to think of alternative ways to either play our sport or find a way of keeping fit.

Here are a few sports that you can still continue with even during lockdown.

1. Cycling

As we are now in the depths of winter getting out on your bike is not a lot of fun. The temperature is generally below freezing and for me, a keen cyclist, I really don’t enjoy cycling in minus degree temperatures. Nowadays you can now set up your bike in your home to go on a virtual ride which is something I have done and means that I get to go on bike rides all over the world and more importantly I’m still enjoying my love of cycling.

2. Golf

Golf is one of the most popular sports globally and with lockdown many, if not all golf courses were closed. This meant people were unable to play a round of golf for exercise and indulge in their passion for golf.

If you have enough room in your home you can add an indoor golfing simulator. This will give you the excitement of playing a round of golf indoors in your home. So if you possibly have a garage that you store rubbish in, it would be a good time to clear it out so you can install a golfing simulator and practice your game, and then when you get back on the course you will be ready to win the game. It’s also perfect for those winter months when many golf courses are closed due to weather conditions and you are able to keep your golf game ticking over.

3. Gym workouts

Of course another casualty of lockdown was gyms. They had to close for safety and to protect people. This had quite an effect on people not only physically but also on their mental well-being.

That doesn’t mean you can’t do your gym workouts, it just means you will be doing them at home instead. Nowadays there is plenty of equipment available online so creating a home gym shouldn’t be a problem. You could use your garage or a spare room and install a tread mill, cross trainer and bench to do weights. This will help you stay fit and help you mentally.

What have you done to continue at your chosen sport during lockdown? I would love to hear in the comments below.
