How To Keep Your Kids’ Video Gaming Habits Healthy

October 8, 2019

Video games are becoming more and more of a domestic necessity in the world, it seems. They’re obviously not necessary, but they’re in the majority of households these days. People of all ages are playing video games due to their quality and their ability to hook, but they’re especially popular among young people and young kids.

If you have kids, then you’re going to be wary regarding everything they do. They’re naïve, and could end up damaging themselves with everything they do! If you have games consoles or you wish to buy some for your children, then make sure it’s not to their detriment. Here are a few ways you can keep your kids’ video gaming habits to a healthy level.

Ease Them Into It All

Don’t throw a large screen at them with all kinds of opportunities. If they have loads of gaming stuff in front of them, then they’re going to be hooked easily, and you’ll probably have an addicted little human in your house. Give them a small console with a few games – they have years and years ahead of them to find things like water cooled gaming pcs and the latest high-tech machines.

Limit Screen Time

Staring at a screen for too long will cause all kinds of physical and mental strains – especially if they’re sat in the dark for extended periods. You’ve probably thought about this already, but you should give them a set amount of hours a day/week to play. Letting them stay on games all day will not be productive whatsoever.

Create A Healthy Setup

When they do play, you should sit them in a nice, comfy area. If they’re sat in the dark staring at a big screen that’s less than a meter away from them, then they’re only going to be impacted negatively – it doesn’t matter how much their skills improve if they’re health is being lowered in the process! Allow lots of light. Make sure the room is void of all gloom!

Keep Them Active And Out Of The House

Too much gaming can turn a child into a lazy little thing – especially at such an impressionable age. Kids take things in like sponges at that age, so if they get used to behaving a certain way, then it might affect them going forward. Make sure they’re active more often than not – there’s more to the world than what’s on their screens.

Remind Them That It’s Just A Game

This is one of the most frustrating statements to hear – especially when you’ve just lost, or you’re in a bad mood, but it’s something that needs to be said. It’s very easy for a kid to get sucked into a particular video game, and when they’re lost in the competition, they can become very passionate, aggressive, and emotional. When they lose or when they fail to complete a certain part – which they will do – calm them down by reminding them that none of it actually matters! It’s easier said than done, but it’s something you should do. Also, don’t approach their aggression with even more aggression – that won’t help the situation at all.
