How To Turn Your Kids’ Room Into Your Big Kids’ Room
Your kids grow up quick and one minute you’re painting the nursery eagerly waiting for them to arrive, the next thing they’re climbing out of their cot. This means it’s time to move into a big bed and Paw Patrol or Thomas the Tank Engine takes over the room. Then eventually they grow out of that and want something cool for their room, so what little updates and changes can you make to your big kid’s room to make let them know that you know they’re not a baby any more.

The Bed
As your child grows bigger, the amount of toys and things they have grows too, so they need more space. One way to create space in your child’s room is to get a bed which allows for this. For example, a cabin bed which is high up – very exciting for your big kid, also has plenty of space underneath and many even come with a desk too which is extremely useful as your child gets older and needs space to work. Kids also feel big when they get a big bed, so it could make bedtime a lot easier than it has been before. Bedding is also essential, and they may have grown out of character bedding, so choose something together that suits the room and suits them too. It could even just be a plain colour which will take them right through to their teens.
The Walls
Over the years the walls are going to change, so rather than having wallpaper with their favourite TV show on which could change all too often, why not have plain walls and decorate the room with posters? This way, you could go from Thomas the Tank Engine when they are smaller to space posters and prints as they get bigger, which will look really cool and they won’t out-grow space. Another thing you can add to the walls is plenty of wall hooks; this will make it easier for you to cope with the mess as you can just get your child to hang things up if putting them away is too much to manage.
FurnitureYour child will go from playing with toys in their room to spending more time in their chilling out, so having a bean bag or something for them to sit and chill out on would be a good idea. Not only that but as they get older and start having friends round, they’ll want to hang out in their room and even have sleepovers so a bed-chair or futon could be a good idea too. Think about the curtains or blinds too and even if they want something new, it’s a good idea to stick to blackout blinds as any kind of light is really stimulating to the brain, so you don’t want to undo all the excellent work you have done getting them over their sleep issues by all of a sudden bringing in too much light for the sake of some new curtains.
