It Seems Such An Effort For People To Be Kind In Today’s World

February 19, 2020

A percentage of people in our world today have evolved into a grab all and not give their fellow human beings a thought of how their actions could be making somebody unhappy.

This selfish behaviour is now so out of control that I personally worry about how our children are going to behave as they get older. The practice of being kind to somebody seems to be a dying thought in most people’s minds. There seems to be an attitude that as long as I get what I want, stuff the consequences of who it might hurt, offend or just simply making somebody feel worthless as it doesn’t matter because I have what I want and that’s what is important.

It’s no surprise that the instances of mental health problems and issues and the suicide rate is growing at an alarming rate and no more so is this very prevalent than in our young people and children. When people start to get trolled online and these people once they start won’t let go until real long term harm has been done to somebody.

The world may be moving at a very exciting speed when it comes to the internet and social media, but a balance needs to be found between the real world and the not so real world of social media where people think it’s ok to talk and say things that are just plain nasty and give no thought of the consequences that their comments can have on somebody without even questioning for a second how it will make somebody feel. So why is it people are using social media platforms to bully, belittle and just be totally unkind to others, and so often the people they are hurting they don’t even know. It’s really, let’s be honest, a strange thing to do, to be unkind to somebody you don’t even know.

Of course the reason why people do it is very simple. People can be nasty from behind a screen without fear of being found out. Most of these people, who are cowards, would never go face to face with anybody to say such nasty things to them and basically be unkind. They wouldn’t have the courage to do it, but from behind a screen they are so brave, NOT!

The world is losing the art of being kind. We have a society that now almost rejoices in bringing people to their knees with unkind and nasty behaviour, especially online. Sadly in a lot of families this is being passed down the generations and many of today’s children will consider it normal to not be kind to other people.

An act of kindness can be anything from phoning an elderly relative who lives on their own, reaching out to a friend that maybe struggling with life, buying a homeless person a cup of coffee or just making sometime for somebody with a listening ear. Kindness within the human race seems to be disappearing quickly. It’s something as a society we need to address and teaching our children that being kind to somebody is a good and nice thing to do, and perfectly normal.

So let’s just be kind and if you can’t then surely the nicest thing to do is say nothing at all. A little kindness will make the world a much better place.

Do you think the act of kindness is disappearing in society? I would love to hear in the comments below.

I don’t think kindness is disappearing. There are still very many kind people out there willing to do anything to help anyone. I think the problem is that it’s far too easy to be hurtful instead, especially when you can do it from behind a keyboard. Being unkind to someone’s face takes a certain kind of person, whereas being unkind online can be done by anyone at all, because they can hide away their true identity. I always try to teach my children to be kind, it costs nothing but can be so rewarding.

Social media never ceases to amaze me. I’m not sure that the views shared by some are actually even a true reflection on how they act in reality. Kindness is still alive and kicking in the world, just not so much in the online community.

Very apt post in the wake of Caroline Flack’s suicide. It is definitely so much easier for anyone to be unkind / a bully or a troll because social media offers a certain level of anonymity. However, I don’t think that means that more people are unkind if you see what I mean ! #ThatFridayLinky

I think the recent #BeKind hashtag can only be a good thing – reminding people of the little things & what’s really important in life #ThatFridayLinky
