Kids Crafting Activities for Every Season

With every season come changes to the natural world. Animals retreat and slowly as the weather starts to perk up, nature begins to bloom. There’s no better way for children to experience and learn about each of the four seasons than to get outside and interact with the different elements. 

As a learning activity, you can create crafts together using what you find outdoors and create lasting memories of each. Here are three crafting activities that were shared with us by a nursery in Fulham.

Tree Paintings

It’s easy to recognise the season you’re in from the way that the trees around you look. As an exercise, you can get your child to paint what they see. This will encourage them to think about each of the characteristics, such as the fallen leaves they will see in autumn and their brown hue. Not only will this activity help them to learn about different environments, but it will get them to use their creativity and fine motor skills.

3D Trees

To create something a little more realistic and help them pick up on the finer details, you can create a 3D model using cards, branches, and tissue paper. Simply cut out four tree shapes, fold them in half and stick the outer portions of each to one another and repeat. You will then need to stick the remaining end pieces together and will end up with a 3D tree that you can decorate together. If you can find any that are small enough, you can stick on real branches for the arms and tree trunk and use tissue paper for the leaves.

Mini Gardens

Using paper plates, they can also create their own mini garden and illustrate what they see on the floor around them. For a more life-like representation, feel free to use materials that closely represent the different shapes and textures, like cotton wool for dandelions.
