The platform you run your computer on affects pretty much everything about how you use it and what you can get out of it. For that reason, it is always a good idea to make sure that you have the kind of platform you want, so that you can be sure you are going to get the most out of it on the whole. There are three main types of platform out there: Windows, Linux & Mac. They each have their own benefits and drawbacks, but an increasing number of people are less and less happy with their Windows computers, with good reason. If you find that you would rather have one of the other platforms than Windows, there are many things to think about in order to make sure that you can make the most of it. In this article, we are going to look at some of the things to think about when you make the switch from windows to other platforms.
Choosing Your Platform
First of all, you will want to choose your platform, and that of course requires that you have a good understanding of both Linux and Mac and that you know the differences between them. You might already have one or the other in mind, but it is a good idea to really look into it and discover whether you are certain that is the right one for you. Mac can offer a lot of the same usefulness and user-friendly approach of Window, and it might be an easier step over for less confident users. But if you want something that is going to work perfectly all the time, then Linux is the only option you should really consider. What’s more, it’s completely free of charge, and open source too, so it is always improving at a fast speed.
There are a lot of differences in software which you will need to bear in mind, so that you can make sure that you are going to be able to do everything you need to do. The thing with Windows is that it is full of proprietary software, which is often hard to replicate and which you might well need for some tasks. However, there are ways around this. On Linux in particular, you can easily set up a virtual box so that you can continue to use whatever Windows software you need to, and this is a great solution to consider. On Mac, you can often get much of the same software, so you won’t need to worry so much. See this article for more: ‘Is it safe to download Adobe Flash player for Mac – Setapp’.
The Learning Curve
It’s a good idea to remember that, as with any kind of change, you are going to have a steep learning curve. This might be especially true for Linux, which is quite different to what most people know, but in order to make it easier you could think about going for a GUI version like Ubuntu. With Mac, you will have much less trouble, and can probably get used to it pretty quickly.
