Man Cave Considerations in the Age of Post-COVID
What did you do during the first lockdown? If you thought it was prime time to renovate your home, you were not alone! But now there are some signs of life returning to normal, a lot of us have now decided that we should stay at home more often, and only venture out when we need to. While you have already made different alterations to our home, there may come a time in your life as a dad that you need to create some space for yourself. In which case, is a man cave truly justified, especially when the pandemic has gone and life returns to normal? Here are a couple of considerations.
Have You Already Set up a Workspace?
This is a priority, first and foremost and you have to discuss it with your partner. Because if you decide that you need some sort of man cave, it’s very likely going to have to share equal billing with your home office. In which case, can you justify adding bulky extras like a pool table or a black jack table? If you have already set up a workspace, the better option might be the attic. But of course, a man cave is one of those places that should be, on some level, inaccessible to the rest of the home. If you set up a workspace, you might have to think a bit further outwards.
Is it Time for a Shed?
One of the trends in lockdown has been to purchase external home offices. They are more than just a standard shed. They are sturdy, insulated, and can provide that all-important peace and quiet. So if you think that you can justify a man cave, this might be the best way to go about it. However, one of the perils of getting a shed is that it gets treated, well, like a shed! This means you will see tools and random paraphernalia slowly accumulate in your precious garden shed.
What Is the Man Cave For?
We have to consider that if we want to set up a man cave in the traditional sense, perhaps we don’t need to call it a “man” cave. If you are a new-age dad, and you don’t necessarily want a man cave so you can play darts or pool, but a man cave for quiet reflection, you can easily fashion a space in your home that is for private time. Everybody needs private time and this is something that doesn’t necessarily need to have a label on it and is classed as a man cave but could be a space for all the family to use. You might want a man cave because you need peace and quiet from the rest of the house, but everybody may need peace and quiet from you!
Trying to justify a man cave after the pandemic is easier as we’re all after some form of peace and quiet, but maybe we don’t call it a man cave? Everybody has gone through an emotional year, and they’ve all realised how much everybody gets on top of each other at home. If you really want a man cave, set up the space, but think about it in a completely different context.
