Some Industries Have Suffered Some Industries Have Prospered Through The Pandemic

So many industries over the last twelve months have all come to a standstill. This is of course due to the Covid 19 pandemic that has swept across the world. Some industries such as building construction have actually gone from strength to strength. The construction industry is a vital part of any economy and in particular the new house building industry.

Unfortunately as I have already said many industries and businesses have not been so lucky. Here are a few examples of industries that succeeded and some that have suffered.

1. Hospitality

The hospitality industry, which covers the likes of hotels, pubs, restaurants, nightclubs etc have had long periods where they have been closed completely to being allowed to open, but in a very restricted way. This has left many businesses on the edge and many more that have not survived the pandemic and only time will tell as to how many will re-open after lockdown and how many will have to close their doors forever.

2. Construction

The construction industry has operated throughout the entire Covid-19 pandemic and all the building sites whether that’s building office blocks or new housing estates have continued in a Covid-19 safe environment.

I have, like many people, driven around and seen many new housing estates being built and the activity is incredible. Whether it’s concrete being delivered for foundations or materials being delivered to complete homes.

There are always tradespeople such as carpenters, bricklayers and painters wandering around from home to home to complete their part of the construction of a new home for somebody.

The logistics of organising all of these tradespeople and making sure the site is secure so that anybody that shouldn’t be on the site is denied access. To make sure the site is safe and only the people that are allowed on the site are there you need to have building site access control in place so that construction companies can manage their workforce on a 24/7 basis. This can be done in a variety of ways such as ID cards. Also health and safety can be managed to make sure all people on the site are working in a safe environment.

3. Aviation

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on the aviation industry. As borders were closed globally aircrafts were gradually grounded as the demand for overseas travel decreased. Summer holidays in the hotspots of Europe such as Spain or the south of France became something of the past and it’s likely that they won’t return anytime soon because to vaccinate the entire world is going to take a long time to do and until there is a global herd immunity, holidays abroad will have an element of risk. It will be many years before the aviation industry returns to the levels of 2019 and we can all enjoy holidays in the sun again.

There are of course many other industries or businesses that have suffered such as high street retail, but online sales have increased to unprecedented levels as people have had no choice but to shop online.
