Explore freely talking to your child

Having the time for conversations is going to be one of the easier ways to pick up on your child’s ability to communicate effectively. Use this time to have some quality time with your child and talk to them about anything and everything. Let them take charge of the conversations as well; if they feel inspired to talk and tell you all about their day then it’s going to bode a lot better in terms of their development.

Ask them lots of questions

Having some questions for your child to think about is going to help them come up with answers of their own. In doing so, your child has that unique opportunity to think about what they’re going to say next. They can develop their own opinions and share them with you, which can help them slowly build on what they know and what they think about the world in general.

Use what your child is learning in school

To make it easier on yourself you can use what your child is learning about in school to keep things relevant. Your child may also be in boarding school, which could make things like this a lot more difficult, but they are learning to communicate in a whole new way.

These work because your child is forced to communicate with the members in their group – they can’t be silent! This helps your child enjoy to get out of that comfort zone and also to identify what they can improve on when it comes to working effectively in a team.
