Vaccines Are The Answer To The Covid Pandemic

The last year has been an unprecedented time for the human race . Never in my wildest dreams did I expect in my lifetime that I would watch the way we live come to a halt and social contact with family and friends be limited to meetings in outdoor areas only.

The Covid-19 pandemic has certainly changed the way we have lived our lives. We have experienced three lockdowns of society with pubs, restaurants, shops, offices and schools to name a few shut down for months on end.

As parents we became home schoolers as our children spent months at home, and from personal experience I have to say that is one of the toughest jobs I have ever done. Teaching my nine year old twin girls at times was incredibly stressful for the simple fact that much of what they learnt I had to teach myself how to do it first so I could then teach the girls. In particular maths was very difficult because of the way they now do maths. It’s completely different to the way I learnt when I was in school.

Finally after nearly a year we saw some light at the end of the tunnel when the vaccine was approved and the UK was very quick and efficient to roll it out, firstly to the elderly and vulnerable of our society. Many places that were closed have started to re-open and people are starting to back to the office for work. Of course to make the workplace a safe environment all workplaces should use covid-19 lateral flow tests.

I had my letter in the post in mid February to attend a vaccination centre at the beginning of March for my first dose of the vaccination. This really was the start of our society returning to something resembling our lives pre-Covid.

My vaccination centre was a converted leisure centre and as I walked in I was greeted by officials and directed to a reception area where my ID was checked. It was all done with social distancing and mask wearing to obviously stop any chance of Covid transmission.

I was then directed to sit down and wait for my turn for the covid vaccination. The organisation of the vaccination centre was excellent and I was very quickly requested to go the vaccination booth of the many vaccination booths that were placed around the edge of what used to be a sports hall.

The vaccination booth was spacious and if required could become very private with a curtain to pull around. It was organised with all the technology to make sure I was the person that should be receiving the vaccine. The nurse was very informative and made sure I was relaxed and at ease, and it was all over in ten minutes.

There was a real sense of relief in receiving the vaccine that it was a start in a return to normality and the lifting of so many restrictions on our lives. It has been such a long time that finally that light at the end of the tunnel is starting to shine brightly for us all.
