3 Ways To Reduce Household Chores

April 14, 2021

If you are sick of constantly feeling snowed under by household chores, join the club! Most parents seem to find themselves being continually faced with mountains and mountains of chores, be it laundry, cleaning, dishes, home improvements or cooking. All parents know that when kids are involved, mess usually follows – so your chores get even longer and more pressing as time goes on.

While there is no way to get rid of your chores altogether – that is, unless you hire a professional cleaner – there are life hacks that allow you to reduce the amount of time you spend doing household chores. In this blog we will explore just how easy it is to spend less time on chores, and more time on the fun things in life!

  1. Get a robotic vacuum.

Vacuuming is a very satisfying task, but with kids and pets in the mix, you know that you’ll be doing a lot of it. A robotic vacuum such as the roborock is the perfect solution to your constant vacuuming needs; it travels around your home independently, vacuuming up small particles of dust and crumbs without you needing to lift a finger. All you need to do is empty it and charge it up at night, and you’ve got a vacuuming solution that lasts for years!

With a robotic vacuum you will still need to occasionally manually vacuum your home, to ensure any sections missed by the automated one are cleaned. However, for day-to-day cleanliness, a roborock is the perfect solution.

  1. Set a timer for fifteen minutes each day, and use the time to tidy.

Sometimes, the reason the chores seem so huge and impossible is because they are built up over days, or even weeks. This results in more hours being spent working your way through the pile of things you need to do, and it’s exhausting!

Instead of doing this, you should get into the habit of setting a fifteen minute timer each day, in which to complete simple tasks. These could include:

  • Tidying away clothes, shoes, accessories or others from your bedroom;
  • Wiping down regularly used surfaces like the kitchen counter and dining table;
  • Putting away kids’ toys and other non-essentials into their correct location.

You’d be surprised how much you can get done in fifteen minutes!

  1. Split the “big chores” into bite sized chunks

Of course, “big chores” such as fridge cleaning, bleaching your bathrooms, gardening or huge loads of laundry can’t be completed in fifteen minutes, no matter how speedy you are! To tackle these bigger tasks, make sure you split them into palatable chunks. Don’t leave them all for the same day, where you’ll get fatigued and give up halfway through – set one per day, for example, as this will be more achievable.

If your children are old enough, you should also make sure to teach them basic household chores, and get them to help you out too! This will shorten the time you spend doing chores, while teaching your kids valuable life lessons for the future.
