Of course, the recent pandemic isn’t the only factor behind the occasional money problems we might experience.

Frivolous spending, household repairs, and utility bills that are higher than expected can also leave us with little money to live with before our next paychecks arrive.

So, what can we do about the problem? Well, we have a few suggestions here, so if your cash reserves are bordering on empty, heed some of the advice we give to you.

#1: Make savings where you can

When your bank balance is low, frugality is key. You need to look for ways to make cutbacks in all aspects of your life, be that finding better deals at the supermarket, finding ways to save on your utility bills, and resisting the urge to buy items you don’t need. Check out the linked article for further cost-cutting techniques and do as much as you can to preserve the limited finances that you do have.

#2: Return any unnecessary purchases

If you have been a little careless with your credit or debit card, you might still have time to return some of those items you purchased. So, instead of feeling buyer’s guilt after realising you couldn’t afford your purchases after all, check the store’s return policies, and get in touch with them to claim a refund.

#3: Sell anything you don’t need or want anymore

You’re bound to have things within your home that are gathering dust. You might have books that you don’t intend to read anymore, for example, or DVDs that are now redundant because of your move to Blu-Ray or streaming services. There could be items that you are intending to replace with the latest models, such as a games console, a household appliance, or a gadget akin to the Apple Watch. Take stock of any such items, and look for places where you can sell them. Gadget Go Go is a great place to sell your Apple Watch and any other gadgets, and Amazon, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace are perfect for any of your other items. Be sure to check on the going prices of the items you are selling, however, as you want to ensure you get the best possible deal.

#4: Take on extra work

If you are currently working, you could always ask for overtime. Sure, the extra hours will suck, but if the extra money makes up for your shortfall, you will be glad that you made the effort to do more than usual. If you need money in a hurry, you could also check out Task Rabbit for any immediate gigs, or you could check out any similar website online that posts adverts for people looking to make some extra cash.

Finally

These are just a few ideas, but you can probably think of more, and you will find further tips online. So, if you are strapped for cash, don’t despair, as there are ways to salvage a bad financial situation!
