4 Ways to Be More Productive When You Work From Home
Anyone who has ever worked from home will know that it can be difficult to stay productive at times. Although remote working has a huge array of benefits, from better work/life balance to cost savings, everyone is different. Some people are able to do their best work without the noise of the office and the distractions of their coworkers. Others, however, need the stimulation and routine that is provided by the traditional nine to five.

So what can you do to be more productive when working from home? It is simply a matter of finding a routine and getting into good habits. By following these four tips, it won’t be long before you are able to get the most out of every working day.
Establish a routine
THe big difference between a day in the office and a day working from home is the routine. When you commute to work, you have to get up at a certain time, attend scheduled meetings, and then clock out at five. Yet when you’re at home you don’t have this structure. It’s easy to lie in each morning and start work late, or carry on with your tasks well into the evening. This can mess with your sleep schedule and really impact the quality of your work. Therefore it’s important to establish a routine. Set a fixed time to start and finish work each day, and have firm boundaries between your personal and professional life.
Create a working space
Even though you’re at home, it’s important you have your own dedicated working space. This will put you in the right mindset for work and ensure you are as productive as you can be. If you have a study or spare room, take some time to tidy it up and fill it with all the equipment you need. If not, then allocate an area of your home, such as the dining room or living room, for the task.
Outsource
There’s a reason why successful organizations outsource areas of their business to third parties such as managed services firms or consultancies. It saves a huge amount of time and allows business owners to maximize their productivity. If you feel you have your hands full, perhaps their areas of your professional or personal life you could outsource. If you’re self-employed and you do your own taxes, hiring an accountant will make things much easier. Alternatively, if your personal commitments are getting in the way of your working day you could consider paying for childcare or having groceries delivered instead of heading to the store.
Eliminate distractions
Although you may be able to stare at your phone and scroll through social media without fear of impunity, that doesn’t mean you should. It’s a lot easier to get distracted when you’re at home alone so you need to take steps to keep your mind focused. Turn your phone off or keep it in another room while working, and refrain from having the TV on in the background.
