5 Signs Your Bunkie Board May Need a Replacement

June 23, 2023

Getting a good night’s sleep is an essential part of one’s overall health. But you can’t achieve that if you don’t have a supportive bed. Mattresses overall can be pretty expensive, but it’s an investment you should make if you want to maintain your physical health. Here are some signs that you should replace your mattress instead of waiting until later.

1. Your Mattress Has Started To Sag

If you notice that your Bunkie Board has a dent that is the shape of your body, then this is a clear sign that your bed is worn down. Sagging typically occurs in all beds, no matter what they’re made from (except for water beds). If you use a box spring, then sagging means that the springs are about to break. Fiber or memory foam will also sag over time, creating a hammock effect that isn’t supportive for your spine at all.

2. Your Spine Isn’t Aligned When You’re Sleeping

If your bed is not offering you any support or alignment of your spine, then you’re not going to have a comfortable sleep. Sleeping on your back means that there should be a natural S-curve; if your back is flat or exaggerated, then your bed is not providing you with the proper support. Sleeping on your spine means that your spine should be in a straight line, from your neck down. If you’re able to slip your hand between your bed and your body, then it’s time to get a new mattress.

3. You Wake Up In Pain

Waking up with sore areas of your body means that you don’t have the right support. If you wake up with a sore back that gets better throughout the day after stretching, then your bed could be the problem. Your bed should be supportive enough on your relaxed body that you’re not waking up with sore spots or stiff joints.

4. Your Mattress Isn’t Comfortable

You spend at least eight hours in bed, so it should be a place where you can feel comfortable sitting or lying down for extended periods of time. Having to adjust your body in the middle of the night can interrupt your sleep cycle, degrading the quality of sleep that you’re getting. So if you find that you can no longer sleep through the night because you have to move into a new position, then it could be time to get a new mattress.

5. Your Mattress Is Old

Mattresses typically have a lifespan of about eight years, but that is also dependent on the overall quality of the mattress and what it’s made from. Other factors that contribute to the lifespan of a mattress are whether you sleep alone or with a partner, as well as how you sleep. If your bed is anywhere between seven to ten years old, then it’s probably time that you get a new one.

If you’ve noticed any of these signs, then it’s important that you go mattress shopping to find a new one. Speak to the professionals about any concerns you might have so that they can help you find a mattress that is right for you.
