Brilliant Dad Feature Week 98
This week our brilliant dad feature is Dave who blogs My Taylor Made Blogs.
He is a first time parent and writes a parenting based blog with his wife. He started his blog in October and writes about the adventures that they have bringing up their little girl.
As well as documenting memories of their little girl they enjoy writing previews and reviews. In particular they like writing about music and food in and around their local area.

1. Have you always wanted to be a dad?
Yes, I grew up with an older brother and sister and so I have been an uncle since I was 12 and have grown up around kids. I now have 8 nieces and nephews! I have always known that I wanted to have children and as soppy as it may sound meeting my wife and having our little girl really has made my dreams come true.
2. How did you feel when your children were born?
Like I had just been given the most important job on earth. Overwhelmed with pride and a burning need to care for Lorna and LT.
3. What have been your most rewarding experiances so far as a dad?
It has been the small things; feeding LT for the first time, rocking her to sleep and putting her to bed, nipping out to get shopping while the girls rest at home and just the small things like that which make me take pride in caring for them.
4. What are some of the funniest moments to have happened to you so far?
We take LT swimming and one week we had to switch classes and go to a different venue. We just did what we normally do and went straight from the pool to the nearest changing room and Lorna started drying LT whilst I got changed. We suddenly became aware that the changing room was full of other Dad’s…..and no women! It was too late to do anything about it so Lorna tried her best to just keep her head down and pretend that everything was ok whilst she changed LT’s nappy with a bare blokes arse about 3 feet away from them! Luckily the only guy that was left by the time we had changed and dried LT had a great sense of humour and we were able to laugh about it!
5. Have there been any situations with your children that you have found difficult to cope with?
During the first few weeks once my paternity had ended there were times when LT became difficult to settle at night and that was tough. It was hard because I wanted to help but at the same time neither of us really knew what to do or what she was crying for and it feels at the time like you are helpless.
6. What are dreams and hopes for your children?
Like most parents I have ideas about what I think LT will end up doing. I have visions of her not having the constraints of a 9 to 5 job and doing something creative, a dancer or musician maybe. I am not sure about the academic route anymore as by the time she would be ready for university who knows how much debt it will land her in. Ultimately though I just want her to be happy and I will fully support her in anything that she does as long as it makes her happy.
