[AD] Buying a 2 berth motorhome to explore the UK

The summer holidays have begun and for many families that means packing our suitcases and taking a well deserved trip. Sadly with covid still very much an ongoing issue lots of people won’t be taking their usual holidays abroad. However, that needn’t be a bad thing!

As a family we have well and truly embraced the UK staycation! We love our camping trips and that’s why my wife and I are considering buying a 2 berth motorhome. Our children are growing up so we’re looking ahead and planning a trip away just the two of us! That’s why a 2 berth motorhome would be ideal.

A berth is a bed space compared to a travel seat which is a seat with a seatbelt. Motorhomes can sometimes have (for example) 2 travel seats but 4 berths. This would mean that only 2 people can travel in the motorhome but 4 can sleep in there. When purchasing a motorhome you would need to make sure that there are enough berths and travel seats for all the people who are going to regularly use the motorhome.

With two comfortable seats up front my wife and I will be able to sit side by side by side on our road trip and take turns driving on those longer journeys. Plus the bathroom is tucked away to one side tidily giving us a nice and cosy seating area at the rear.

Of course with any motorhome, it’s always important to go and view it. However, you may not be able to with current covid restrictions. The Autograph 69-2 motorhome has a Peugeot Sat Nav system which is always a bonus for us. My wife, who has lived in Cardiff all her life still has to use Sat Nav to get around! I also really like that there is a Dometic reversing camera. Driving a motorhome is quite different to driving your every day carso a reversing camera is an essential for us.

Talking about driving a motorhome, it’s important to note that some motorhomes have licence restrictions dependent on weight. If you passed your test after 1st January 1997, you are restricted to driving a motorhome that is 3500kg or less, unless you have taken an additional test to add the C1 category to your licence. Those who passed before this date automatically have the C1 entitlement and can drive a motorhome up to 7500kg. This is one of the reasons why we’ve chosen the Autograph 69-2 as it’s 3500kg. 

All of Bailey of Bristol motorhomes are constructed using Alu Tech. This is a completely new approach to body construction that uses a unique interlocking aluminium framework.
