[AD] Decluttering Our Home For An Oasis Of Calm
It’s been a year since my wife and I bought our first ever home. It’s been an exciting time to finally have our own home to decorate and make it exactly as we want it. Well, at least how my wife wants it! Only joking haha! It really has been a pleasure to decorate without having to ask a landlord if we are allowed too.

When we bought our first home it gave us a great opportunity to de-clutter and dispose of lots of things such as toys that our twin girls had grown out of and many other unused and unwanted items.
Amazingly, even after just a year of being in our new home we have in certain areas started to collect clutter. I’m sure this is down to the fact that we are parents of ten year old twin girls and we all know what children are like for collecting rubbish. Our girls never seem to get rid of anything.
So it’s time for a declutter in our new home to restore our oasis of calm.
This summer I have teamed up with Very.co.uk and their ‘Homeware/Decluttering Campaign’. Very have a fantastic range of products for the home and garden.
In our home, one corner of our lounge, to my surprise, has been building up clutter. We had a small shelf type storage unit which initially was there for the girls to store their books, but slowly it started to fill up with all sorts of rubbish and ultimately was beginning to ruin the aesthetic of our lounge. This meant when you walked into the lounge your eyes were immediately drawn to that corner.
It was something that needed sorting so we decided that it would be a perfect place for a sideboard. We wanted a sideboard that wasn’t too big that it ended up dominating the room, but also something that was big enough to store everything and make the corner clean and tidy. There are different types of sideboards but we found the Arlington 2 Drawer 3 Door Sideboard was absolutely perfect in size, design and also in a colour that matched our decor and most importantly that will enable us to declutter that corner of our lounge. It will achieve an oasis of calm for relaxing family time which actually helps your mental well-being by living in a clutter-free environment.

Over the last couple of years the covid pandemic has changed the way we view and use our homes. For many of us our homes have also become our workplace and we are no different in that respect. My wife works from home so it was important that we found a comfortable workspace for her. We did this by incorporating a work station in our bedroom which is perfect because if she needs peace and quiet then all she has to do is close the door.
Another area of our home that is used more than ever before is the kitchen. It was important to both of us that it’s organised and has the right appliances to make our lives easier. That’s why the Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone Air Fryer is the perfect appliance for us. You can make yourself a delicious panini for lunch and also use it to cook a whole chicken for dinner. It was important that all the cupboards are neat and organised so it’s easy to find what you want in a second and also so that our girls know where everything is. A clutter free kitchen without a doubt makes preparing and cooking meals a pleasure.

Finally because of lockdowns and restrictions that were placed upon us due to covid we went weeks being together as family and seeing nobody else. We are lucky enough to have a nice garden and we utilised this a lot during the pandemic. It has now become very normal to spend family together in the garden and we furnished the garden with a patio table and chairs and we have now added two Marseilles 5-Position Folding Loungers to our garden which are perfect to relax on in the hot summer months.

We have found that to have family time together you don’t need to go out. You can just chill in your back garden and one thing we love to do in the summer is have a barbecue. Normally we tend to by a barbecue that will only last one summer, but we decided to get a better quality barbecue that will last summer after summer. We decided on this 22 Inch Kettle Grill Charcoal BBQ With Side Table and Cover barbecue. It’s a good size to cook everything we need for a barbecue and when we have finished we can cover it to keep it in the best condition.

De-cluttering your home is very easy to do but before you start you have to make sure you’re willing to get rid of items that you simply don’t use anymore. It means you have to be harsh and tough and not think to yourself “oh, I can’t get rid of this because.” Just say to yourself, do I use it? Will I read this book again? If not, why not take them to charity shops or recycle them for others to enjoy?
There is no doubt that if you live in a clutter free environment your home will feel calm and that will consequently help yours and your family’s mental wellbeing.
Have you recently de-cluttered your home? I would love to hear how you got on and how it made you feel in the comments below.
