[AD] Extending Our Home With A Single Story Extension
During the summer months I always look around our home to see how we can improve our living environment. The single biggest improvement we need in our home is more room in our kitchen and to create a breakfast area with an area to relax that looks out into our garden.

Our kitchen is situated at the back of the house and overlooks the garden. My plan for 2021 is to open up this area and extend it into the garden which will be the width of the house. This will take in the lounge and allow us to enter the kitchen from either the hallway or the lounge as you will be able to walk through the breakfast area back into the kitchen so it will give an open plan feel to our home.
The extension where it meets the garden will be a combination of glass panels and doors which will be fantastic to open up in the summer months and give the feeling that your bringing your garden inside.
The planning of the extension is so important. You need to find the right architect who can really design what you envisage for your home.
As this will be an extension for life you also need to make sure you get an experienced and quality builder that understands that an extension of this type needs a solid foundation that is going to last a lifetime. So finding a concrete supplier that you can trust is very important and a company such as Ridge Concrete who deliver direct to your door is one such company.
Once the foundation is laid down you can then get the builder that you have employed to start building the extension of your dreams. For myself, once the architect has finished his design and you are happy with it, it’s very important to me that the builder doesn’t alter those designs because it may be difficult to build. If the builder is a recommended quality builder he will stick to the plans, and if he doesn’t I will be sticking to my guns that he does stick exactly to the plans. I will not be convinced to do another way because it will make the job quicker or easier.
Once the extension is finished I want the garden to be an extension of the house so I will be have a concrete base laid right across the width of the house and instead of laying patio slabs to this area I am going to use marble floor tiles which will be the same in kitchen and breakfast area. This will make the extension flow naturally into the garden and a give a feeling of room and space.
This is a project that I will be looking at starting in 2021 to improve our home.
