[AD] Helping Children With Their Reading With The Readmio App (Review)

I’m a father of five children. Three of them have grown up and my two youngest are ten year old twin girls.

When I look back on certain milestones of all my children’s lives, one thing that I remember with fondness and sadness is when they became independent readers. I remember it with fondness because through our encouragement they developed a love of the written word, whether that be reading a hard copy book, via a kindle or an app on your phone.

My sadness is that it meant I was no longer able to read them a bedtime story. Reading your children a bedtime story at the end of the day was always a lovely time of the day. It allows us to connect with our children in a very special way.

When I read my ten year old twin girls a bedtime story it’s always a book they have picked. Quite often it would be two books because invariably they couldn’t decide on just one book between them.

When I was recently approached by Readmio to review their app I was instantly interested to see what they’re doing differently to what many do every night when it comes to a bedtime story. How Does Readmio work?

This is where Readmio is a step above any other reading app I have come across. First of all there are no pictures with the stories, but as you read the story it has a very clever way to interact with your child. Some of the story is highlighted in bold writing and at that point it will automatically create a sound that is relevant to the story. For me this was a game changer when reading a bedtime story to your children, it’s truly brilliant. In the story detail there is a parent tip that will help your children read with understanding.

How much does Readmio cost?

During the trial period there are 30 free stories to pick which range from fairy tales, fables, folk tales, educational stories, sleep stories, myths, and legends from all around the world. They work hard to cover every corner of storytelling. You’ll find very familiar tales but also stories exclusive to Readmio. If you decide to subscribe to Readmio, which I highly recommend, the choice of stories to tell your children is massive. All the stories are from aged 3- 11 years old.

In your profile on the app you can find all your stats of how your child’s reading is progressing and you can get awards to show how well you are doing.

Final thoughts

This is a five star reading app for reading your children stories at bedtime, or in fact any time of the day. It will help and encourage them to fall in love with the written word through storytelling and it will without question spark their imagination and help them develop in those early years by increasing their vocabulary and intelligence. If you are a parent I can’t recommend Readmio highly enough. It’s a must have for every parent.
