[AD] Learning A Foreign Language With Tutorful

February 20, 2021

The world has certainly been turned upside down in the last twelve months due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. In addition, our children’s education has been greatly interfered with.

Schools have been shut for long periods of time and adult learning classes that would have normally been held at places such as community centres, libraries and leisure centres have been cancelled indefinitely due to the Covid-19 risk.

We have had to find a new normal when it comes to education with children now remote learning and adults continuing their education online.

We have all had to spend many hours more in our homes due to Covid -19 restrictions. It’s been difficult at times to fill those empty hours.

The pandemic has given me the opportunity to do something that I have wanted to do for a long time. To learn a foreign language and in particular Spanish.

So when Tutorful recently approached me to review their online tutoring platform, this was a perfect opportunity to fulfil an ambition of mine to learn a new language and hopefully become multilingual and when eventually when we are allowed back on holidays abroad again I will hopefully be able to converse with the locals or at least have some understanding of the local dialect.

What is Tutorful?

Tutorful was founded in 2015 and the aim was to help anyone find their perfect tutor to achieve their very own learning goals. Simply taking the hassle out of finding a tutor that’s perfect for you by bringing all the best tutors together in one place. The Tutorful platform has gone from strength to strength and now has 11,000 listed and over 1.5 million lessons taught.

How Does Tutorful work?

It’s really simple. Just download the app and register for lessons online. Then all you need to do is select your subject and Tutorful will give you a list of tutors to teach you your chosen subject. Every tutor is vetted so you know whoever you pick will be suited to your needs.

Once you have picked your tutor you can message the tutor for free as many times as you like and when your chosen tutor replies you are notified by email and text so there is no need to keep checking the app.

Once you have chosen your tutor they will book you in for a lesson. You will then be asked to confirm the lesson and they will be paid 24 hours after your lesson has finished through Tutorful’s secure payment system.

The rate you pay is the rate that you see on the tutors profile. There are no hidden charges or additional costs.

Once your lesson is confirmed your tutor will prepare an individual lesson plan and you can chose your lesson times to suit yourself.

Tutorful will always do their best to match you to a perfect tutor but if for any reason you are not happy they will pay for your first lesson with another tutor with no question asked.

My experiences of Tutorful

As I have already said I decided the pandemic was a perfect opportunity to learn Spanish as we spend so much more time at home.

Finding a tutor was incredibly easy and when I searched for Spanish tutors I was offered numerous choices and at different prices so finding someone to fit my budget was very easy.

After looking through the many tutors available I decided to message Ian. His profile was very informative and detailed and he had a lot of teaching time with very good reviews from previous students and his fee was what I was looking to spend.

Ian was very responsive throughout the entire process of booking my first lesson. He kept me informed and also sent me my lesson plan so I could see what I would be learning in my first lesson.

The time had arrived for my first lesson. I waited patiently in Tutorful’s online classroom for the lesson to start. It was all set-up with a two way shared whiteboard and shared video calls with my tutor Ian.

The lesson started with Ian explaining to me a little bit about the Spanish language and how passionate the language is and when Spanish is spoken an emphasis is put on certain letters and many letters in words are silent.

My lesson started with very simple phrases such as ‘my name is…’ etc and Ian, I have to say taught in a very relaxed way which put me at ease and broke Spanish words down in the message box so I was able to pronounce them correctly.

My lesson was in total one hour long and because of the way Ian taught I learnt so much in that hour. It was a very enjoyable experience.

The Tutorful platform is without doubt a great way to find a tutor for either yourself or your children. From finding a tutor to booking a lesson and having a lesson was seamless and very easy to navigate via the Tutorful app. I’m now looking forward to my next lesson on my journey to learning Spanish.

I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Tutorful. If you are looking for a one to one tutor on line it is the perfect complement for children if they are struggling with a particular subject in school and can be done from the comfort of your own home, or if like me you want to learn a new language.

This is a paid collaboration with Tutorful and all thoughts and opinions are 100% mine.
