[AD] Picking A Timepiece Or Clock For Your Home

As a society, we’re always improving and changing our homes. This feels more true at the moment due to the lockdowns of the last 12 months. Whether we like it or not we’re all spending more time inside our homes, and the increase in people doing their own DIY has gone through the roof. This is completely understandable because after all when you spend so much time at home you want to make sure the surroundings are perfect. I guess, if you also happen to be furloughed then it’s something to keep you busy.

When, for example, you have decided to re-decorate your lounge or your hallway it’s the finishing touches that will make the difference between just ordinary and spectacular. Adding ornaments, pictures, clocks or other decorative items will stamp your character and personality onto your home and help to make it feel like your own.

In particular, adding a timepiece like a clock to your home can say a lot about you as an individual and give a splash of art to your walls at the same time. Here are a few clocks that you could add to a recently decorated room in your home to help give it some extra personality.

1.Cuckoo Clock

If you have a quirky nature or you like to have something that’s a bit different and is a feature in your home then a cuckoo clock is a must. A cuckoo clock will be perfect for the hallway or the lounge or your kids would love to have one in their bedroom. 

The cuckoo clock originated from the Black Forest in Germany in the 1800s. The cuckoo clock is surely a timepiece that stands out and when the clock strikes the hour a cuckoo will pop out and chime the cuckoo sound.

Nowadays, the cuckoo clock comes in many different styles and designs, from traditional A-frame chalet houses to modern minimalistic cuckoo clocks. You can have one that will chime or play a musical tune every hour.

2. Grandfather Clock

A grandfather clock is a rather large item of furniture in addition to also being a timepiece. It will add style and sophistication to any home. One of the best places to have a grandfather clock in your home is the hallway. That’s because it will be one of the first things that you and any visitors will see upon arriving at your home. It will stand out and encourage comments from friends and family as to how stunning it is.

Did you know that the grandfather clock was originally called a longcase clock, but it got its name, “grandfather clock”, from a song written by Henry Clay Work in 1876 called “My Grandfathers Clock”. I thought this was a pretty interesting fact! Even though grandfather clocks are expensive, they are precious timepieces that can be passed down through the generation.

3. Mantel Clock

The fireplace in any lounge is usually a centrepiece in a home. The mantelpiece above the fire is where you can make this space totally unique and individual to you by placing a mantel clock. Mantel clocks can either be hung on the wall or as a carriage clock. Placing a bespoke clock above your mantelpiece will make your fireplace a beautiful feature. Or you could have a carriage clock sitting in the middle of your mantelpiece with your other precious ornaments around it.

These three clocks give you a few ideas for timepieces to have in your home that not only look beautiful but bring a vintage, Old World charm to your home decor.
