[AD] Saving Money By Making Our Meals From Scratch
Times are definitely getting harder in Britain. With inflation rising on a monthly basis and energy prices hitting all time highs, there is definitely a big squeeze on household budgets.

One cost that seems to up on a regular basis is our food bill. There is no doubt if you shop savvy you can save a lot of money. We have always shopped at the same supermarket for a long time, but we noticed our food bill was getting more and more expensive for less food. That’s why we made a simple decision to swap supermarkets and we literally halved our food bill overnight. What’s more, we now get more food for our money.
We were previously buying too many ready meals which are particularly expensive. Last year when we finally bought our first home, it needed completely renovating and the kitchen in particular was in desperate need for a complete renovation. We decided that we wanted to have completely new everything. After all, we spent a lot of money on the kitchen, by installing an induction hob and oven and for the hob you need the correct saucepans.
To start on the right foot with our new home we also decided to eat a more healthy diet and meal plan our week/month. This in the long term will eventually help us save money and eat healthier.
When cooking from scratch you need all the right equipment and utensils to prepare all the food. The first decision we made was to buy quality kitchen knives. While browsing the internet I came across Katto knives which are total quality and very reasonably priced.
They have a very comprehensive range of knives but we decided it would be good to have two different knives.
1. Santoku Knife
The Santoku knife is perfect for mincing, dicing and slicing. This is due to the straight edge and sheep’s foot blade. A perfect kitchen knife.

2. Chef’s knife
In your kitchen you should always have an all rounder knife and this chef’s knife is a perfect all rounder knife. The chef’s knife has a broad tack sharp blade that can tackle any part of food preparation.

3. Saucepans
Our saucepans had definitely seen better days so without hesitation we knew we needed to upgrade them. As I previously mentioned we had a brand new induction hob and cooker. So I would recommend if you have an induction hob, read the label on the saucepans and frying pans to make sure they are compatible with induction hobs otherwise you could end up damaging your induction hob.
Finally we decided to move away from any plastic made equipment or utensils mainly because we wanted to be more sustainable. We bought wooden utensils and stainless steel equipment such as sieves and roasting dishes etc.
So we’ve now moved home and totally changed our mentality when it comes to cooking and eating and having all the right utensils and equipment such as quality kitchen knives which has made all the difference and of course we are eating more healthier and saving money. What’s not to like about that!
Do you meal plan and cook meals from scratch? I would love to hear your experiences in the comments below.
