[AD] Why Young People Should Consider A Career In Manufacturing
The UK is changing so much and never before has this been more obvious than in 2020. The year started with all of the arguments and protests over Brexit and how the UK would be leaving the European Union – with a Deal or with No Deal.
Then in March, we were hit with a pandemic. COVID-19 had travelled to our shores and in the space of just a few weeks, our lives were transformed into something that the population of the UK had never experienced before. Lockdown.
The biggest impact of both these seismic shift events will be felt mostly by our youth. Already their schooling, and in particular their exams, have been affected.
This has left our young people with decisions that could affect the rest of their lives when it comes to deciding on a career. University isn’t for everyone, and if that’s the case, then why not consider a career in manufacturing? Here are a few reasons why it could be the right decision for the start of your working life.
- Manufacturing entry levels
Most manufacturing companies offer a variety of entry-level opportunities and will invariably offer on the job training to new employees. The Manufacturing sector still covers a range of different industries such as pharmaceuticals, aerospace, and food production – so whatever your particular passion is, you should be able to find the career that’s right for you.
- Hard work will be rewarding
When you manufacture something, it’s actually there right in front of your eyes. A product that you have made from beginning to end. It could be an aerospace part of even just a toy, but the feeling of the accomplishment that you made that product is a very rewarding experience. You can look at it and think, yes – I made that!
- A manufacturing job will keep you active
If you have an office job, you usually sit in the same place all day. A manufacturing job, however, can help to keep you fit and active. You could spend your days moving around, lifting and bending. This side of a manufacturing job can keep you from getting bored, help your day go quicker and keep you in shape.
- Promotion and growing as a person
You may well start out at entry-level in your new manufacturing career, but if you show initiative and a willingness to learn, there is every chance you will be promoted quickly – and companies will almost always prefer to promote internally as opposed to recruiting externally. Who knows – you could be in a managerial position before you know it.
