5 Ways To Stay Healthy During Lockdown

October 27, 2020

The year 2020 will be remembered as the year that a pandemic swept across the world and sadly many people lost their lives. Lockdown became one of the most commonly used words as countries were asked to stay home to stop the spread of Covid-19 and to only leave home for necessities such as exercise and shopping for food.

It has certainly been a year that has made me think about my health and I have thought very long and hard about ways to stay healthy and to lead a healthier lifestyle. Here are five things that I did during lockdown to try and stay healthy.

1. Bike Rides

I have always done a lot of cycling and this was a perfect way to increase the amount of bike rides that I went on during lockdown. There is nothing better than getting out on the road for a 30k bike ride. It is very refreshing and makes you feel good about yourself. We also, as a family, went on many bike rides which our eight-year old twin girls loved.

2. Smoking

If you are a cigarette smoker it was suggested that if you unfortunately caught coronavirus then it could make you very unwell. So, lockdown would be the perfect time to switch to an e-cigarette. E-cigarettes are filled with e-liquid so that you can still have nicotine in your system without all the harmful chemicals in your body. E-liquids nowadays come in lots of flavours and strengths so finding something to suit shouldn’t be a problem. The best part is you will stay healthier and fitter.

3. Dog Walking

If you have a dog then this is a perfect way to stay healthy and fit and you can go on nice long walks to get some much-needed fresh air during lockdown and walking is really good for your well-being and mental health. This is something that you can also do as a family.

4. Running

Running is a perfect way to stay healthy and it’s a great way to get your cardio up and feel good about yourself. You don’t have to do a half marathon every time you go for a run and you are not in a race, but 5k a day is a great way to stay healthy. If you have never done any running there are great apps such as couch to 5k to help you get started.

5. Eating healthy

There is no doubt that nowadays there is a greater reliance on convenience foods such as ready meals and take-aways.

During lockdown when we are all at home more, this is the perfect opportunity to start making meals with fresh products and also get your children involved in the preparation of meals. It’s a much healthier option to have a freshly made meal using fresh produce.

That’s my five ways to stay healthy during lockdown. They are simple changes to our lifestyle, but benefits would become obvious instantly.

How did you stay healthy during lockdown? I would love to hear in the comments below.
