Introduction
Nowadays many people prefer working from home instead of going to the office. Some people believe productivity is affected when working from home, but others believe more work is done and faster. The work environment of an employee greatly influences the efficiency and quality of an individual. It is with no surprise that Job interviewers sometimes ask their interviewees what type of environment they would prefer working in. According to (Doyle, 2019) “What Type of Work Environment Do You Prefer?”, the interviewee should be honest answering this question.

Why work from home?

Recently, technology has allowed people to communicate more efficiently. This advancement has allowed corporations and organisations to explore remote employment options. Through improved internet and private networks stay connected with their remote employees through teleconferencing and video chats. According to Adrianne Bibby, (“17 Stats about Remote Work”, 2019), “remote work has grown 91% over the last 10 years, and 159% over the last 12 years”. Therefore, anyone with the capability and will to work from home should do it.

Steps to create the best home working environment

1. Create a schedule

Supervision at home is non-existence. You have to discipline yourself and allocate timings for all your activities throughout the day you can write in your notebook your activities for the day.. Adherence to your work schedule is of most importance.

2. Create a productive space

Some people will want to work in the most comfortable area in their house; sofa. However, too much comfort will make you lazy. You need to get professional office stationery for your home. Get a chair that will allow you to sit up for long hours. A large table with will host your personal computer and your documents, is also important

3. Make space in your home

Working on the normal spaces in your home can be distracting. That is why you need to look for a dedicated environment that you only use to work. This way you train your brain to be productive once you are in that space.

Benefits of working at home

1. Astonishing productivity

500 people were used in a case study conducted by Stanford University that proved that working from home yields higher productivity than office workers.

2. Reduce stress

Job related stress is greatly reduced when working from home. Statistics show that People who work from home have a 24% chance of reporting less stress and feeling happier.

3. Longer careers

Working from home means that employees have to keep up with the advance in technology which means older workers can keep their jobs if they remain relevant with changing systems.

4. More time

Commuting to and from work takes time. Since that time is eradicated for home workers, there is more time to invest in personal projects.

Conclusion

Creating a working environment is not easy. There is a lot to be done in your home to transform it into a professional working space. Working from home is also not for everyone. If you do not have a good internet connection, then working from home becomes difficult to the point of affecting productivity.
