September 18, 2023

Are you a dad craving some excitement and adventure in your life? Well, you’re in the right place. Being a dad is a full-time job, and when you add your career and household duties on top of it, it can feel like there’s little time to preserve your adventurous spirit. The thing about adventures is that everybody aspires to excitement and safe action in life. Nobody is satisfied with a simple desk job and heading back home to eat and sleep in the evening.

Why do you need adventure? Because it keeps you satisfied and happy, and it’s a big part of your physical and mental health. Truth be told, you don’t have to give up on living an adventurous lifestyle when you become a dad. There’s still so much you could be doing. Not sure where to start? Here are some ideas to inject some adventure back into your life.

Off-roading

Imagine the thrill of steering a rugged Land Rover through challenging terrain, adrenaline pumping as you conquer obstacles. Off-roading isn’t just about driving. It’s a unique adventure that connects you with the great outdoors. A little tip before you start comparing different variations of the Land Rover Defender online: You want to take some off-roading driving lessons first. This will ensure you can navigate rough trails safely.

Cycling

Cycling offers a fantastic blend of fitness and adventure. Whether you’re exploring serene country lanes or tackling demanding mountain trails, each pedal stroke brings a rush of exhilaration.

Besides, it is a great way to assess and boost your fitness level. You can start by joining weekly challenges first, until you feel confident enough to take the road by yourself without a challenge to motivate you.

Running

Lace up your running shoes and hit the pavement or the trail. There is no more thrilling adventure than going as far as where your body will take you. Running isn’t just about fitness. For many runners, it is a powerful mental escape. You can completely free your mind and let go of day-to-day stress when you hit the road.

Admittedly, it is important to make sure you are ready for it. Running does require specialist equipment just as running shoes to protect your joints. Another important aspect to consider if you are new to it is to increase your mileage gradually. Does it matter if your first run doesn’t even cover a mile? The answer is no, because you want to build up your strength and resistance gradually.

Team sports

This may sound like an odd idea as many adults have not played in a team since their school years. So what is so adventurous about team sports? First of all, there is the prospect of winning as a team, which will give you a rush of adrenaline every single time. Secondly, teams build a sense of camaraderie and trust that you can’t find anywhere else. So, this is a surefire way to stay active and connect with other competitive fellows.

Some of the best options for dads include soccer and basketball, but you may find other sports such as volley-ball, handball, or squash more suitable and less injury-prone.

Camping

Camping is a favourite among Britons. It;s a cost-effective way to spend the summer break. But there’s more to it than a cost-saving holiday trick. Camping is an adventure that immerses you in nature. From stargazing by the campfire to waking up to bird songs. Camping can offer an authentic experience.

Granted, today’s gear makes the whole experience safe and well-organised. So, it doesn’t feel like an unplanned and chaotic adventure where you need to MacGyver your way out of unexpected situations. Nevertheless, there is a sense of building up your survival skills when you go camping, even if it is only to learn how to make a fire or pitch a tent. And, you’d be pleased to know that camping can be a family tradition, especially when everyone gathers around the campfire to share stories and a cup of warm tea.

Foraging

Foraging is a long forgotten skill but it can be a culinary adventure if you know what you are doing. Take the time to exp[lore the wilderness around you to find edible berries, mushrooms, and plants. There is so much around you that it can become a weekly adventure in the local woodland area.

You will need to take the time to learn about edible plants and those that should best be avoided. There are some foraging workshops available across the UK if you want to learn from an expert. But this could be a fun way to help your kids connect with nature and surprise them with an unexpected yummy treat!

Road trip

Nothing truly beats spontaneous road trips. What can you do this weekend? A road trip is a mini adventure that can be fully contained, just as heading to a new region on a day off and exploring what’s around. When you’re planning a road trip with kids, you want to focus on spending only a day or a weekend away, so things remain easy to organise.

Yet, there is still a lot of room for spontaneity as long as you know some handy tips for success:

  • Always keep an analog map in case you can’t get GPS navigation
  • Keep a snack bag at hand
  • Pack outerwear so nobody gets trapped in the cold if the weather takes an unexpected turn for the worse
  • Be confident in your vehicle, both in terms of servicing and road-side repairs

Escape rooms

Escape rooms are growing in popularity. Indoor adventures can be just as exhilarating. The exciting aspect of an escape room is that it is an opportunity for you to become the hero of your own adventure: you can be a detective solving a crime, an explorer trying to retrieve a precious artefact, or even a pilot trying to save a spaceship. Escape rooms challenge your problem-solving skills, making you feel like a character in a thrilling movie.

So, it could be the perfect day out for your family. You can dive into the puzzles, codes, and mysteries and become the hero of the day.

Lifting

Building strength through weight lifting can make you feel like a real-life superhero. You can increase your physical strength and abilities, which can help you feel more confident in your day-to-day life. Besides, your body naturally loses muscle mass as you get older, which can affect your posture and your overall energy. Strength training can not only help protect your body against gradual muscle loss, but it can also help with the typical complaints of the dad body. Don’t you want to become a role model for your kids? This could be a great way to challenge yourself to build up strength for them.

Callisthenics

Not everyone loves the idea of building up muscles. Yet, you do not need to bulk up to go strong. Callisthenics, the art of using your body weight for exercise, can make you feel as powerful as a Marvel hero.

You can learn workouts that will defy gravity and end up making you feel like a million bucks!
