After the latest terrorist attack is travel safe?
As we all have seen in the last few days another appalling attack has happened on innoncent people going about their daily business and lives.
The frequency of the attacks seem to be increasing and there seems to be no particular reasoning to them, at least none that I understand. I fully appreciate that innocent people are killed in places like Syria everyday, but that is a war zone. Europe is not a war zone, but it seems we will be if certain terrorist groups have their way.
All of this got me thinking about us as a family. We live in Wales and this year we will be flying out to Spain for our family holiday.
It worries me and I would be liar if I said it didn’t. They didn’t kill world leaders that make decisions about our world. They killed and injured innocent normal people like me so when I arrive at the airport will I be looking around to see if I can see anything suspicious. The chances are yes because it can actually happen anywhere at anytime and that is a very worrying thought and the latest terrorist attack happened in an area where no security checks take place, being the entrance to the airport. It appears it was very easy for the terrorists to kill at will.
There was a time when I used to say we are not important in terms of where we live as nothing will happen here. In fact naively I used to think has anybody even heard of Cardiff, but now I believe that this is not the case anymore.
If the objective of terrorist is to make us scared of our own shadow, then to some extent they have succeeded with me. I am definitly more wary while travelling.
We will be going on our summer holiday this year and there is no doubt we will enjoy ourselves, but should there be another attack on innoncent people it will make feel a little bit more uneasy about flying.
Unfortunately for us the security services of the world have to get lucky every time in stopping a terrorist attack, but of course the terrorist only needs to get lucky once.
My thoughts are for all the innocent people and their families who lost their lives or were injured in the Brussels terrorist attack.

The last attacks happened at a rock concert. I'm sure many of the attendees were local. Thats what makes these types of attacks so scary. There reason is no ryme or reason besides maximum fear and carnage. The only way to truly stay safe would be to stay home completely or avoid any large gathering of people. I refuse to do that

I have no choice but to travel on the tube every week day for work. Most of the time I don't even think about terrorism because it would rule my life if I did. But certainly this week it's been on my mind a lot. I was on the tube the morning of the London attacks so am always haunted by it and it's always so scary. Equally, I am a much more nervous flyer now! You try not to let it affect you but at times you just can't help it. But, if we all stop travelling and living life like we normally would, then they've one. And what we definitely don't want is for them to win.

Realistically where are we safe? I'm from Northern Ireland, and my town is quite famous for its bomb scares. Google 'Omagh bombing' and it has it's own Wikipedia page. I think we just have to put it at the back of our minds when travelling, heavens knows what's really around the corner.

It does shed a different light on how I feel about plans to travel etc. I had seen the band in the Paris attacks in concert, we often go and watch gigs, we were in Cardiff just the week before the Paris attack watching another band. The victims were just normal music lovers like us. We travel abroad on holiday and horrific events like the Brussels airport attack play on my mind a lot. I don't want it to restrict our lives though. I worry about my children growing up and where this will all lead 10-20 years from now. You just have to keep living, we can't give up on our dreams and the things that we enjoy in life because of these evil brainwashed people.
