Another Baby? No! Well, maybe!

July 28, 2016

The other day I published a post called nursery is over lets have another baby. All this has got me to thinking. Do I want another baby really? Well, maybe!

I have pro-recreated five times. That’s a lot in today’s world. In fact it’s double the average of 2.4 children per family so I have done well! For twenty years I have had my pockets emptied of my money and it continues to be emptied on a daily basis still.
Do I want to hear my name, dad, echoed in my ears for a sixth time? Well, it does have some appeal if I’m honest.

Then the reality kicked in and I thought the baby is here now and that will equal some very hard and soul destroying moments and that’s just in just the first year, followed by many more years including toddler trantrums and those joyous hormonal teenage years. This of course started all the negative thoughts entering my head.
1. Sleepless nights. Oh h no! Not again! Where you are lucky to get more than two hours straight sleep and you wake up in the morning more tired than when you went to bed.
2. Changing nappies 20 times a day and having the beautiful aroma of poo wafting around your house for days on end.
3. Weaning, what a wonderful time that was! Trying to get baby to eat solid food, only to eat a full meal and then cough and vomit it all back up.
4. Having this little person crying and not being able to communicate to you exactly what is wrong. You have to just second guess it and probably get it wrong.
5. Not going out without baby in tow, missing your favourite TV shows, living with baby brain and beginning to enjoy CBeebies more than adult TV.
The thing is what am I to do? I can’t honestly say I’m 100% certain I don’t want another baby.

Why would I want to put myself through this for a sixth time? Well! Because that moment, that very first breath your baby takes in the world is amazing and when you are holding them and you look down at your baby and think I’m part of the reason that little person is here it feels like nothing else in the world! A truly beautiful moment! It defines me as a person and as a parent, and I believe it’s what I was born to do! To be a dad! Of course I would have liked to have been a pop star, film star or just very rich, but that didnt work out! Ha ha! If I’m honest being a dad is so much better and incredibly more rewarding. It’s me, it’s what I’m about! I love every moment except when they’re screaming, but dad I need it and I want it now! Oh yes that 99.9% of their waking moments.
The dilemma is there and I think I will have a clearer picture in September when the twins start school full-time. Will the desire to have another baby be greater or I will enjoy the extra time to myself?
Of course I think I better check with my wife if she would like another baby!

Funnily enough I've been having similar thoughts myself. Little Miss OMG is growing so fast.
There is no "Baby" left in her. She looks so grown up. Also the age gaps to her brothers mean they arent going to want her hanging around.
Unlike you though none of mine are grown up so room is an issue, cost (they are all still in school!)

I think I'll stop at the four. For now! 😂

    Thanks for hosting #binkylinky
