Are My Six Year Old Twin Girls Lucky Or Spoilt?
My wife and I are both bloggers, and if I say so myself we have both been relatively successful, and the income from both our blogs has enabled us to enjoy some extra luxuries in life, that I severely doubt we would have been able to do or afford otherwise. The reason behind this is because they run in conjunction with our other jobs that we both still do.
We both work very hard like I know many other people do up and down the country. Are we going to be millionaires anytime soon? No, not a chance, but the combination of our jobs has afforded us a certain lifestyle.
We have six year old twin girls and I often wonder if they are lucky or spoilt. It’s quite a dilemma and in some ways it goes against everything I believe in. When I was growing up I only ever had presents on my birthday or at Christmas, and even then it probably was not what I really wanted, but more what my mother could afford. However, I didn’t know any different and most of my friends were in the same situation so it was normal. I didn’t go on a plane until I was 14 years old. Oh, how times have changed!
My dilemma is are we giving my six year old twins too much too soon? Could we possibly be turning them into spoilt brats that are not genuinely happy unless they are receiving a new game or toy, instead they begin to accept it as the norm.
In a short while we are flying out for a weeks holidays to Minorca. This is the second holiday abroad for us as a family this year. In fact the girls have been abroad six times for holidays and they are not even seven years old. This also includes two trips to Disneyland Paris. Are we leaving ourselves open to having to go abroad every year, or would they accept a caravan holiday in this country, as a change and allow us to not spend so much on holidays abroad? If I’m honest I’m not sure I know the answer.
Through blogging the girls get a massive amount of toys and technology, and I sometimes look around our home and think this really is too much. It probably is, but the ability to receive products for review to give the girls something new and nice is quite honestly too good to resist.
So back to my original question, are my six year old twin girls lucky or spoilt?
The best way to answer this I think is it is a bit of both. They have parents that have worked hard and if we can afford nice things for them that in all honesty if we didn’t blog they wouldn’t have these new toys. The holidays we have are in truth paid for by the blogs. We couldn’t possibly afford to do that on just a single income. Are we spoiling them to young and giving them far too much at an early age that we are setting ourselves up to have to continue with this lifestyle because they will see it as normal, most likely.
Are they spoilt? The truth is yes to a certain degree,m. Thankfully they don’t show it if they can’t have this, that or other in the shops because at six years old they already realise that mummy and daddy are bloggers and that is where so much of the nice things they have comes from.
I truly believe we as parents are giving a very good example that with hard work and dedication you can achieve so much and have so many of the nice things in life and the girls as they grow older will hopefully realise that if you want something you have to work for it.
I would love to hear your thoughts.
