Best Places to Visit on a Family Holiday in Menorca

It’s been a few years since we’ve have had a family holiday abroad in the sun. In fact, it’s was before the pandemic so quite a while ago. However, with the global pandemic now behind us, we have decided that next year we are going to book a family holiday abroad in the sun.

One place that we have visited on a few occasions is Menorca. It really is the perfect place for a family holiday. What’s more, our eleven year old twin girls love Menorca. There’s so much for them to do there and to keep them occupied.

On our previous holidays to Menorca we have always gone all exclusive in a hotel. This was perfect when the girls were little, but now they’re older we thought this time it would be nicer, and give us more freedom, to have a look at large family villas in Menorca. Staying in a family villa in Menorca will mean that we will be able to decide on mealtimes and not be restricted to hotel times for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We’ll simply be able to have freedom on our summer holiday to do what we want, when we want.

Of course as we have been to Menorca before, we already know that there are many fantastic places to visit. As such, I’m going to suggest a few must visit places if you are planning a family summer holiday to Menorca.

1. Splash Sur Menorca

As a family we love a splash park! Flying down the water chutes is great fun, and the longer and faster they are, the better!

The Splash Sur Menorca is perfect for all ages who love a water chute. So if you’re an adrenaline junkie then try out the Kamikaze or the black hole water chutes and find out who is going to scream the loudest as they slide down at high speed!

If you are then looking for a little chill time, they also have an amazing lazy river to prepare you for the next water chute.

If your children are young there’s an amazing pirate ship which has its own mini slides and water jets. This is a must visit for a family holidaying in Menorca.

2. Lloc de Menorca Zoo

The Lloc de Menorca Zoo is a perfect family day out if you love seeing animals from around the world. For kids this is easily one of the most fun things to do while in Menorca.

They have a forest where you can see lemurs being very cheeky and watch the acrobatics of the macaques as they swing above your head.

You can also feed goats which my children love to do and see the resident porcupine getting up to all sorts of antics!

3. Mahon (the old city)

If you are looking at a sightseeing day to learn about the history of Menorca, then I suggest you head off for the day to the old city of Mahon.

Mahon is the capital of Menorca. A wander through the old city is a must! There are sunny plazas and lots of beautiful cafes to stop for a drink.

The old city is full of Georgian houses and the harbour is beautiful. It also has a busy market and a military fort.

Hidden inside the old town of Mahon is a 17th century monastery called the Museo de Menorca and you can see all of the islands history. It’s also a perfect place to have a selfie.

4. Beach time at Cala Galdana

If your children are anything like my twin girls then no summer holiday would be complete without spending the whole day at the beach.

Menorca has amazing beaches and any of them would be perfect to spend the day at, but our particular favourite is Cala Galdana. It has beautiful blue warm waters. You can grab a sun lounger and soak up the rays and also take a walk along the promenade which runs alongside the curved bay.

You can also do some water sports such as kayaking or just go on a boat to explore the coast.

5. La Mola Fortress

If you are exploring Mahon the capital of Menorca then find some time to check out the La Mola Fortress.

La Mola Fortress was built in the 19th century as a military stronghold to prevent the British from reoccupying the island and gives a very deep insight into the history of Menorca. It has stunning panoramic views of Mahon and the bay so don’t forget your camera.

Once inside the fort you can explore secret underground passages as well as the old arms stores and watchtowers.

Menorca is a holiday island for everybody. Whether you are looking for beach time or sightseeing and looking for historical places to visit, Menorca is the place to visit.
