Build That Daddy’s Bond

January 2, 2020

Having a bond with your kids is so important. It’s either going to be something that you found so easy to do, or it’s something you’ve struggled with a little bit. It generally goes that moms have the reigns with the kids. You’ll only be allowed a couple of weeks maternity leave, whereas they will be allowed anywhere from a few months to a year. It makes being a dad that little bit harder because you know that they always run to mom for everything. Or it might be the case that they run to you because they know they’ll be able to get away with it. We’re not trying to say that you won’t have a bond with your kids at all, we just think it’ll be a little different to the one that they’ve been able to build with mom. However old your children are, now is the perfect time to think about building that Daddy’s bond. Your kids need to know that they can come to you for anything, not just when they want something. The closer you are as they grow up, the easier it’s going to be to have that happy and lively family life. So many families are not as close as they could be if the bond was secured when the kids were a little bit younger. You’ll see those families that are always together doing something, and the ones where the parents are struggling to get the kids out of their room. So if you keep on reading, we’ll show you how you can secure the most perfect bond with your kids.

Find A Hobby With Them

Having a hobby is so important for everyone, even you. But dad’s tend to let life take over for a while. They work, they come home and have dinner and a shower, and then they sit in front of the TV. If this sounds like something you’ve fell victim to, then we know that having a hobby can change all of that. Involving your kids is the perfect way to have that bond over something that you love together. There are so many hobbies that both kids old and young would love. For younger children, it needs to be something that you can both do at the same pace. Metal detecting is something everyone can do. It’s so much fun for you to do this for yourself, as well as to do it with your kids. For you, it’s a time where you can completely be with your own thoughts. There’s no real effort involved, all you have to do is slowly walk around and wait for the buzz to go off. It can be so therapeutic if you do ever do it on your own. But when you do it with your kids, it turns into a treasure hunt filled with magic. It gets them out of the house and into the fresh air, and exploring the wild with you.

Become The Second Mum

Dad’s are well known for being a bit more stand off, and only being involved with all of the fun that the moms don’t get as much time to do. So rather than becoming that dad that only appears when it’s time to watch a film, or time to go out for the day, be the dad that’s doing absolutely everything. Giving them a bath each night, putting them to bed and reading a story, building lego houses together. The more involved with every aspect of their life that you are, the easier it’s going to be to build more of a well rounded bond. They’ll begin to come to you for everything and anything, rather than just nagging you when it comes time to play. Plus, it’s nice for your children to grow up with two people to turn to when they’re in trouble. Becoming the second mom means you’re listening to everything they’re saying, being that shoulder to cry on, and being that discipline that keeps them in line. This will become invaluable as they get older and begin to go through all of their teenage related problems. You need to know that they’re going to be able to talk to you about everything and know that you’re going to help them.

Great Life Advice

Life advice is something you can definitely give plenty of. This ties in nicely with the section that you’ve just read. Often we feel like life advice is kissed out on when it comes to parents. Instead of giving life advice, they give advice on how to keep the house tidy, or washing up, or who’s the right friend to have in their life. Parents go crazy trying to get kids to look after their things and chose the right circle of people to hang around with. But, it’s totally the wrong life advice to be giving. You need to be giving advice on how to get into the right relationships, cyber security, how to save money, and how to behave around other people. The better you raise them in terms of how to live their life and the morals they have, the better they’re going to become as people. We think that the art of teaching kids morals has definitely been lost in life! They’re going to respect you far more and the bond is going to be far stronger if you can teach them all of the right life lessons.

Don’t Let Work Take Over

Finally, as we mentioned in the beginning, dad’s are the ones who are at work the most, and can’t be bothered to do anything when they get back. If you have a well paid job, it might even be that you’re having to bring work home every single day. It’s a routine that both moms and dad’s get into, but it’s going to be so damaging to the bond you build. If you’re known as the dad that’s always working, your kids will turn to others for that fun outlet that you could provide. So, don’t let work take over, and always make sure that you’re leaving it at the office.
