Children Are Wonderful But Relentless.

September 10, 2016

Having children and becoming a parent is without question the most wonderful feeling in the world, but OMG! It’s relentless!

There is just never a break and having five children ranging in age from 21 years down to four year old twins. Life is never your own, and over the last 48 hours recently it has been a great example of how being a parent is so full on. Without any chance of taking a breath, just when you think, yes I can have a break one of them pops up and says, dad I need this or can you take me there.
In the space of just two days it actually frightens me how much I have to fit in and at times I amaze myself that I manage it.

I have taken my 19 year old daughter back to university which is a four to five hour return journey.

My 21 year old daughter is buying a new car and wants me to go with her to look at new cars. She also needed a lift to town for a night out.

My 17 year old went back school for his last year of A levels and needed to go to the shops for stationary.

My four year old twins started school full time, which was an emotional time. Preparing them for big school.

We took the twins swimming on Sunday morning and then cooked a bbq for all the family.

The twins being only four have a daily routine that usually starts at 6am and doesn’t finish until 7pm and they’re only little so as independent as they like to think they are, we are still just about doing everything for them. It’s going to be interesting to see how school is going to change them. Actually after just three days they already have a lot to say for themselves, haha!

My mum who is elderly on the other hand, leaves me feeling like the parent. I have to get all her food shopping, because she is housebound and could possibly starve if I didn’t do it.

This is just a small snippet of what I do everyday. It just never ends and if you take into account all the small things that you also do, your days are filled to the brim. Somewhere in the middle of this I have to earn a living as a painter/decorator. To pay for all the things that my children need and require. I wonder sometimes where I find the time to work.

When you have children your time is simply not your own and in my case when you have five children, ME TIME! OMG! What’s that? Being a dad is wonderful, but the things you do for your children is relentless. There are times when I feel like I am sinking in quicksand. Trying to claw my way out.

Would I have it any other way? Not a chance! As tiring and relentless that being a dad is at times. It’s still the best job in the world.

Oh I completely understand this and we only have 2 kids (4 and 6). From the moment they get up until pretty much we go to bed it is absolutely relentless. Being taxi, entertainer, teacher, comforter, problem solver etc etc is just exhausting – but I agree that it is definitely the best job in the world! #justanotherlinky
