Converting a room into two rooms using folding doors

April 23, 2016

In our home we have a very large lounge. At the moment we’re renting it, but I’ve often thought about what I would do to our home if we were to buy it. I think I’d be quite tempted to convert the lounge into two rooms. This would mean that we could have a seperate dining area which would allow us to sit down for family meals together without the distraction of the television when we want it. However, I also want to keep the essence of a very large lounge so that’s a dilemma that I needed to solve!

I decided that a good way of doing this would be to install folding doors. That way we would be able to shut them when we wanted to create a lovely dining area experience when required, but also open them up to give us a large lounge that our four year old twins love to play in.

My next task was to find the right sort of folding doors because I wanted doors that closed flat up against the wall. I do love the internet because you can find anything you need at the click of a button. I turned to Google and found a company called Barrier Components selling exactly what I wanted. They have a fantastic range of folding doors and all the accessories required for installation.

I’ve installed folding doors like these previously for one of my customers, as I’m a painter and decorator by trade. Installing folding doors is pretty easy to be honest. The fist thing you need to do is to fit a track in the the opening that the doors run on. This was done by drilling into the wall and fixing the track securely which is very important because they need to hold the weight of the folding doors.

The doors then fit in the track and can be easily opened or closed. Of course once closed, they fold together flat against the wall, and this of course means that they don’t take away any space from your room.

By using a folding door system you can have two rooms when you need to, but then convert easily back to one room by simply opening the folding doors up making a very versatile investment for any home. What do you think?
