Cooking is a great way to spend time with all your kids. Plus, it is a fun activity which will help them learn some very important life skills. Not only that, though, but it means you can have peace of mind come the day they move out – after all, you will know that they are able to cook for themselves and won’t have to rely on takeaway meals!

However, some kids might not be too impressed when you ask them to give you a hand in the kitchen. Hopefully, though, the following tips could get them really interested in cooking!

Take The Boredom Out Of Cooking

Sometimes, cooking involves a lot of waiting around. But there are ways you can reduce all that waiting, and take the boredom out of cooking. For instance, if you get some instant boiling water taps installed in your kitchen, you will never have to sit around waiting for the kettle to boil next time you need to cook some pasta. And turning on the oven to heat up before you start all the food prep will mean there is no waiting around to put things in to start cooking!

Sign Them Up For Cookery Classes

There are lots of cookery classes around the country that are aimed at children and teenagers. One of the most popular is The Good Cook School in Bristol. A quick search online should show if there are any near you. Most of these classes are at the weekend, though some might take place after school. Classes are a great way to pique your kids’ interest in cooking, and it’s a great starting point for them if they are interested in a career as a chef!

Let Them Experiment

Next time you are cooking a meal, you should give your kids the chance to experiment and come up with their own creations! You never know; they might surprise you and come up with something extremely tasty! This is a great way for them to learn how taste and flavour works, and they will be able to learn for themselves which ingredients go together and which ones don’t!

Grow Your Own Veggies

One way to awaken up your kids’ interest in cooking is to show them exactly where all their favourite ingredients come from. So why not start growing your own veggies?! Start off easy by making a kitchen herb garden. Once you start to build up your gardening skills, you should move onto vegetables like courgettes and lettuces. This is also a great way to eat healthily, as you can make sure that your homegrown produce is organic!

Take Your Kids Shopping

You won’t be able to grow everything yourself, so take your kids shopping with you when you need to buy anything else. A farmer’s market is ideal, as it gives them a chance to ask the farmers questions about where all the food comes from. It’s also a fantastic way to introduce your kids to exciting, new ingredients!

Happy cooking!

I have also written a blog post on cooking with children, which is something that I really enjoyed when I was working as a registered child minder
