Dad Bloggers Are We Really On The Rise?
A couple of years ago I wrote a post called Rise of the daddy blogger. Did we rise? Well maybe, maybe not.

I definitely think that we have become a more dominant force than we were a couple of years ago. I also believe we are a respected part of the blogosphere. Whether we have risen or not, well, that’s something I think is still very open to debate.
The truth is, dads as bloggers are totally and completely outnumbered by mummy/female bloggers. It’s a numbers game, and I wouldn’t be surprised if mummy bloggers out number dad bloggers 20 to 1, so the chances of us rising up and dominating the blogging world are very slim.
I have total admiration and respect for mummy bloggers, because as a tribe they seem to stick together solidly and are always there to help each other. I’m not saying that dad bloggers are not helping because we do help each other on a regular basis, it’s just do the females of the human race help each other out better than males? I think they do.
Men in general don’t always socialise as well as women so is that the secret? Women are better at socialising? Personally I think so.
One list I managed to find myself in last year was Vuelio’s parenting top 10 bloggers. This was particularly pleasing because I managed somehow to be included with some awesome mummy bloggers as well as a couple of dad bloggers all of which are very high quality bloggers. To be named in parenting lists is always very satisfying because, yes, I’m a dad, but ultimately I’m a parent, so the fact that I’m noticed in a list that also includes mums is a very good feeling because blogging is still heavily dominated by mums. This is easily my finest achievement in three and a half years of blogging.
Yes, dad bloggers are gradually breaking down the boundaries and going places that we have never been before, and even though we are dads. our voice is still the one of a parent and this has a completely different perspective to a mum which can be as interesting and insightful as a mum. Not necessarily better, just a different perspective.
So after three and bit years of blogging where do I see dad bloggers in the blogosphere? Well, in my humble opinion we have definitely become an important part of blogging. However, we’re still very much the minority, which, as I have said, is all down to numbers, and sadly I personally don’t think that will change anytime soon.
Some industries and businesses are centred around females, as are others centred around males. Blogging is definitely a female based industry. Men have infiltrated blogging, but if I’m honest I don’t think it’s of any great impression.
Maybe it’s about the fact that females are more open to talk to each other about each other. You see it regularly on the school playground, groups of mums chatting away. Where as dads rarely have those little groups chatting away. This could be the reason that mums are seemingly more successful as bloggers, because they talk to each other, and are completely open. Is it that dads in general are less open and this has transferred to the blogging world of dads?
In my opinion, it is so important that dad bloggers are members of every blogging index or organisation so that we are represented. Although I fully respect anybody not wanting to be part of a blogging list, but for dad bloggers to rise to prominence we need to be members. Leaving lists makes our presence in the blogging world very questionable, and makes us less noticeable, and with very little power.
My question in the title of this post is, are dad bloggers really on the rise? Well, maybe, but it’s a slow process.
I would love to know what you think.

I’ve seen a few more Dad bloggers of the year pop up, but I agree mummy bloggers still definitely out number them. #ThatFridayLinky

I feel as if more and more daddy bloggers are popping up. I would love to see ‘guy’ ‘men’ ‘male’ bloggers shout out. Surely we don’t all have to be parents to be bloggers. I love reading blog posts written by men, but as far as finding their tribes, I imagine it is a little harder for men to be chatty to each other in the way women feel so natural. x

Yes I do think it’s only natural that women bloggers are in the huge majority. And for many of the reasons you outline Nige. They talk to each other! About personal stiff, about their kids. Online I write about my family life, but with blokes, certainly on a day to day basis, I would rarely do so. Working with blokes, the default position is generally the banter, the football, political giving out … anything but personal stuff. I’m comfortable talking about family and personal stuff, but not too many men are. Maybe that’s why I blog! #ThatFridayLinky

Coming from someone that has been blogging for a short period of time. I would like to think that dad bloggers are united and on the rise. It’s a good community to be in.

As a newbie in the Blog world, I agree with you 100% Trying to find dad bloggers (who are consistent in their writing / posting) is difficult BUT it seems as though they are all very welcoming and do look out for each other – which is much appreciated. The other interesting thing is that most of the dad bloggers I have found so far, are in the UK. I am pressed to find a lot of other dad bloggers in the US. What are you guys doing across the pond?? Love following you and the other dad bloggers I have found through your blog!

I think dads can give a unique perspective on parenting. I enjoy mom blogs but I’m starting to read dad blogs as I can find them.

To be honest I only really know of a handful of Daddy bloggers, although I am sure there are many more. I love hearing from Daddy bloggers though and seeing what they can bring to the table which differs from the average mummy blogger. I think it’s interesting to see things from both male and female point of view! #thatfridaylinky

I’m new to it all so I don’t know any different, but I think the dads I’ve discovered so far can be proud of what they’ve achieved #thatfridaylinky

I follow quite a few dad bloggers. I see you all as part of my blogging community just as much as the mum bloggers I follow. I like reading the male point of view on everyday things. Keep up the good work. #Thatfridaylinky

I have to admit I don’t really follow many other bloggers regularly except some in my local group, but one thing I know is that there is an audience for everyone, you just have to hope they find you! #ThatFridaylinky

Before I started blogging I only really saw female bloggers when I was searching for stuff on my first born. It’s only since blogging myself that I have seen more male bloggers. I enjoy reading a few dad blogs, it’s great to get a Dad’s perspective on things. #ThatFridayLinky

Since i started blogging as a hobby, I have definitely seen an increase, with SAHDs and shared maternity leave being championed by some wonderful dad bloggers. This is obviously dwarfed by the number of mum bloggers, but hopefully the great work dad bloggers are doing to support, educate and engage with new dads and each other will see even more.
Features like your (sadly missed) Brilliant Dad Feature are still a great resource for people to find like minded dads. I started mine, to encourage dads to find places to take their children that are a bit different and whilst I have attempted to approach controversial topics, I have never posted them – which is perhaps where many other dad bloggers are put off?
