Date Night In = Great Night In
It’s a common problem, making time for your significant other when there is no time at all. Then more common is the lack of money! And there are so many ways to make your home date central, is it really feasible to turn your apartment or house into a bona fide atmospheric arena for your date without it looking like you’ve just bought a couple of cheap throws to chuck over the couch? Let’s get down to it!
Light Is Your Friend
If you’re really going to make the effort for your partner, you need to transform the space. And yes, candles will help in a romantic setting, as it did when you were getting ready to propose, but you want to not really draw attention to the fact that you’re eating dinner in the kitchen! If you place candles around the place, you won’t be able to see each other that much, will you? So, get a dimmer installed so you can really control the ambiance and go for some bulbs like an Edison bulb which look simple yet elegant. Warmth is the goal when you’re getting date night in full swing at home. If you don’t have much space, make it cozy without making it too cramped.
Transform The Space
The problem with having a date at home is that it hits home the fact that you don’t have much money to spend, so make the space the polar opposite of your living space. Get drapes and be inventive with where you place them around the home. You want to change the space, but you don’t want to just use them to disguise what lies around the house. Get creative with what you can realistically move. If you’ve got a store cupboard, fill it to the brim with everything you can! You want to remind your partner of times you had on nights out when money was seldom an issue.
Cook!
The dreaded C-word. It’s a cliché, but cooking for your partner can be one of the most romantic things you can do. But the difficulty in keeping an eye on the food while also doing your best to entertain your partner can mean that you may spend little time actually on the “date” so the best thing to do is to do a lot of your preparation in advance. All the chopping and slicing can be done beforehand, so all you have to do is make sure everything is cooked through. It’s always a surprise when I cook for my partner, but it’s not really much of a surprise when I burn the food! So get really good at a few dishes and practice them!
Music
A key part of the ambiance is the music you’ll play, and depending on how you both like your dates, upbeat and chatty, or romantic and thoughtful, the songs will play a big part in bringing you closer together. Try a few playlists and see which ones lend themselves to the atmosphere you want to make.
