David From Dad V World Is Today’s Guest Post
First of my guest posts this week is from the awesome blogger and very good friend of mine, David, who tells us how life has changed since he became a dad. Don’t forget to check out his blog Dad V World.

Right, now Nige is off on his jollies he’s naively left me in charge for the day… Well, he asked if I’d right a post for him, same thing!
I’m going to tell you a bit about me before kids and me after, there’s been a few changes…
OK, David before being a Dad. I was much lighter, had thicker hair, more money and worried less. Now I’m a Dad I weigh more, have thinner hair, no money and have turned into a control freak due to worry!
Joking aside my life have changed dramatically, I truly believe becoming a Dad finally gave me that extra push to be the man I always wanted to be. I am that man now. I mean I always had confidence and was true to myself as best I could in those adolescent days, but the extra injection of confidence you get becoming a Dad is mind blowing. Now I’m not talking about confidence as in, I walk around in tight T-Shirts winking at random women, I mean confidence in doing what I believe to be right despite what outside influences say and making decisions about my family’s lives. Being able to say no and becoming ruthlessly protective, almost Hulk-like.
Dadfidence – I just made that up!
I notice I’ve become a lot more positive. I think I’ve brainwashed myself into this one because it’s something I’ve always wanted my kids to be, positive. I’m a big believer in positive mental attitude and if I’m going to talk the talk I have to walk the walk. Children learn a lot more from a parents actions than they do your words.
Emotions. Don’t get me started on the change in my emotional vulnerability. I now cry. At everything. Honestly, before fatherhood I was rarely affected by anything, now Corben gives me a kiss and a cuddle and my emotional barrier evaporates, I need a deal with Kleenex! I know most people with kids try telling people without that they truly can’t understand the emotional impact of children and people without kids think you’re talking nonsense, it’s equal to their love of PS4 and clubbing right? Wrong! Until you have your own walking, talking enhanced version of yourself, you have zero idea!
My transition from Man to Dad was straight in at the deep end. I met Donetta and she came nicely packaged with two daughters already, we added Corben within our first year together and BOOM, from single bachelor to family of 5 in 12 months!
I waited 25 years to find meaning and purpose in life and then BANG! It all came at once. What’s strange is, it doesn’t seem like it took me any time at all to settle into fatherhood, it’s like I was born for it.
Massive thanks to Nigel for choosing me as one of his guest bloggers for this week, a genuine honour!
If you’d like to hear more from me, I blog over at dadvworld.com – If not, then Nigel will be back soon don’t worry 🙂
Thank you to David for being a guest post on my blog this week, also check out The Blended Parent Network of which David is one of the founders. It’s the best parent network in the uk today.

Great little guest post. I too felt a purpose of life when having my child! It’s crazy how quickly life can change. Especially when becoming a family of 5 within 12 months!

Woah, that must have been quite a transformation from 0 – 5, including step kids, in 12 months. That’s impressive. Oh, though we have somehting in common. I also have thinning hair!

Absolutley relate to David’s thoughts on changes. I’m a total control freak, number one protector (self appointed) and it takes me a while to ‘stop’, ‘relax’ and ‘chill the feck out’. I’m happier now than I have ever been and can’t remember a day before I became a father!
