Fatherhood fun or hard work

It’s been an awesome journey watching five children grow up and without question it’s been loads of fun, but at times it’s incredibly hard. 

I do believe that some people are born to be parents. My wife is a perfect example of that (although she does have a habit of spending a lot of money! Only joking ), whereas some of us maybe have to grow into the role of parenthood.

I would like to think most people that have children have instant and unconditional love for their children, but sadly that’s not always the case, and in extreme cases that can lead to desperate and unfortunate results. 

For me it was always instant love for my children which is completely unconditional with an in built mechanism to protect and defend my children at all costs and seriously I would go to any lengths to protect and defend my children.

Looking back over the years there have been plenty of fun times with all of my children. It’s the simple things that I remember most fondly. When one of the children have found something funny and get the giggles, which in itself is infectious and you can’t help to laugh too! 

The pride you feel when your child excels at something either academically or sporting it’s a wonderful feeling you have. 

There are of course the moments you dread. That first love ending in disaster or your teenager getting drunk, but as a parent it’s important to tackle the situation with a calm head and help them.

Sometimes children I have learnt surprise you with their good manners in company and with my older children how they have grown up to be responsible adults and our four year twins when out anywhere, I have to say are always well behaved and that is very pleasing to watch. 

Is fatherhood fun or handwork? Well, it’s a bit of both, but my belief in life has always been that life is only as hard as you make it.
