Full Lockdown is Ending Here Are Some Of My Thoughts
It’s a crazy thought that approximately 10 weeks ago the UK was put into lockdown. It has actually gone very quickly. We as a nation had to endure measures that restricted our movement that basically no generation would ever have experienced before. The closest that some of the elder generation could have compared it to was the 2nd world war, but even they had more freedom than we had during this pandemic.

When we first went into lockdown, like I’m sure a lot of people, thought it would be a few weeks and it would be back to normal life. I know that was definitely my impression, but as time went on and news reports became like horror stories and the transmission and death rate of Covid-19 became an escalating nightmare, fear started to set in and the fear of contracting Covid-19 was something you did not want to happen to you. I know I didn’t because it was impossible to tell how it would affect you and there was a very real chance that you could end up on a ventilator in hospital.
So isolating ourselves in our homes surrounded by just the family we live with became our lives. As a parent we had to become teachers to our children and we also had to become therapists to make sure our children were not suffering mentally as everything that was normal to them was simply taken away in one very quick moment. It’s 10 weeks since our twin girls have seen their friends and there is no doubt they are missing them, but sadly because we are in Wales I’m sure it will be September before they see them again.

There have been a lot of bonuses to lockdown. As a family we have bonded in a way that I feel will never be broken. We have, after all for 10 weeks, had only each other to rely on, and that in itself will give a new special meaning to our family.
I have cycled my way through lockdown and that is something that has looked after my own personal mental health and of course physical health. Cycling everyday enabled me to process the gravity of the situation and approach it in a level way that wouldn’t impact my mental health.

A particular worry initially that I had was money. I’m a self-employed painter and decorator and my thoughts were how am I going to earn a living to pay our bills? Thankfully my blog earns money and for the first few weeks it definitely helped to ease any money worries and I was able to get back painting and decorating around week 5. All outdoors, but thankfully the sun the was out, and that’s perfect weather for painting the exteriors of properties.
What have learnt from the Covid-19 lockdown?
So many things. I have discovered how much family means to me and the importance of telling your other half, and your children that you love them. You appreciate them and you couldn’t imagine life without them and telling them often.

I have also learnt how fragile life is. The UK has been split into the four countries that make up the union, and sadly that union no longer exists. We now as a nation are more divided than ever before, and for me personally I no longer want Boris and Co ruling the way I live. I want Westminster’s rule over Wales removed forever. It’s time Wales became the controller of its own destiny without Westminster butting in.
I have learnt that I am actually more patient than I ever thought I was. I’m actually very polite with lots of thank you’s and good mornings on a family walk Which has been a pleasure to be part of, noticing and acknowledging the people around us with a smile and a hello! It’s been lovely to hear less car and plane noise, and more birds singing and that peaceful sound of nothing which is very tranquil.

Do I think Covid-19 has changed the human race? Yes, but sadly I think it will be only for a nano second and then we will be back to the world we lived in before that had turned into a very unfriendly place where people would stand on each other to just to get what they want. That for me is a very sad inditement of the human race.
Lets not forget this time and hopefully it will improve the way we live. It will spur us on to protect the planet and make it a better place for our children. Time will tell if that happens.
Finally. OMG! I need a haircut, but so far, I have resisted letting my wife loose on my hair with her sewing scissors. Haha!
How has lockdown impacted you I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
