Game For Longer By Gaming More Comfortably

December 12, 2022

As one of the most common modern-day hobbies, gaming has a place in the homes and in the hearts of many a dad. However, as we get older, our bodies might not be quite as suited to those all-night gaming seshes that we used to enjoy when younger. In fact, discomfort and distraction can really get in the way of the latest release that you’re trying to enjoy. For that reason, we’re looking at some of the ways you can really up your game by making the right space for it.

Create your own gaming area

If you’re able to, you should try to ensure that your gaming space is separate from the rest of the home, free from distraction while also not getting in the way of the rest of the family’s day. You want to make sure that you don’t spend all day removed from the rest of the family, but a little separation can stop you from getting on the nerves of your older kids and spouse and vice versa. Of course, if you have a home office and no one else uses it, it can double as a gaming space, too.

Make sure that you stay hydrated

It’s all too common. Forgetting to hydrate isn’t just bad for your health in general, it’s also going to make you feel a lot worse in the short term, too. If you start to experience headaches while gaming, it may well be due to the fact that you haven’t had water for several hours. Using a hydration tracker app can make sure that you’re staying on top of your body’s needs.

Be mindful of the lighting situation

You may have once been quite happy sitting in a dark corner, windows drawn, light from the monitor blazing at your face, but that simply isn’t good for your eyes. It’s also going to leave you a lot more prone to headaches. Using task lighting like a lamp to make sure that the light of the screen isn’t the only thing you see and consider using gaming glasses to mitigate the effects of blue light. This kind of light, primarily caused by digital displays can cause eyestrain and mess up your quality of sleep if you’re not careful.

Comfort is king

Starting to feel your back cramp up after a session of intense gaming? Getting up and stretching your legs may well help, but you should also make sure that you’re minding your posture and how your back is supporting when you’re gaming. Spending long periods of time without good support for your back can start to cause aches to build up. Make sure that you have an ergonomic gaming setup with a chair that gives you good support. Make sure you’re not forced to tilt your head up to watch the screen and that your keyboard (if you’re PC gaming) is at your hand’s resting height.

With the four steps above, you can make sure that you’re comfortable, hydrated, and in your element, allowing you to really dig into those triple-A releases.
