Dropping The Right Gift Hints To Your Partner
Gifting can be a tricky thing to do, especially when you have no clear idea about what a person wants. Don’t worry, a lot of people don’t even know how to tell someone what they want when their own birthday rolls around! You do your best to guess, or to come up with something on the spot, and most of the time, it just ends with a lot of people being disappointed when the big day rolls around.
Communication is everything in a relationship, but outright asking for something to be wrapped up for you can seem to ruin a little of the magic, so you’ve got to find an indirect way of talking to your partner. And that’s why you’ve got to learn how to drop the right hints about what you want, and subsequently, be able to pick them up from other people as well. So, without further ado, here are a few tips to keep in mind if you’re a terrible gift giver and receiver.
Go Shopping Together
There’s nothing quite like an in person hint! Go shopping with your partner for gifts for other people, or just on a usual food shop, and point out a few things that you really like that you’ve ‘just noticed’ around the shop. Do this closer and closer to a birthday or anniversary and the message is a lot more likely to get through.
Leave an Online Trail
If you share a laptop, and/or your partner has you on social media, this is the perfect thing to do to catch their attention about what you want most. Opening up a page of gifts for men, only to ‘suddenly’ need to run to the bathroom and leaving the webpage open on the laptop next to your partner in bed – it’s a great way to get them to think they’ll be surprising you with something you really want!
Similarly, tag your friends and family in pictures of the item or experience on social media, or make sure the fact that you’ve ‘liked’ the brand’s facebook page is posted directly to your feed.
Tell Friends and Family
Why not get everyone involved? If your partner is one hard nut to crack, and you just don’t seem to be getting through to them with the kind of hints listed above, you need to get other people involved! This’ll ensure they’ll be faced with your present choice on multiple occasions from multiple angles, and it’s much more likely to get through to them that this one thing is what you really want.
Get them to talk to your partner about your gift idea, or get them to make up a story about the time they opened the same present and you seemed like you really wanted one of your own, etc. You can be a bit more creative here than the other options too.
Dropping hints about gifts is something couples do all the time. Make sure you’re dropping right!
